Dzalanyama Forest Lodge is a timber house that was originally sited on the lake shore at Chintheche and moved to its present site in 1977. It has had extensive renovations and improvements made and the lodge is now comfortable, clean, safe and the ideal place to unwind.
The lodge consists of four bedrooms, a large lounge and a dining area with a fireplace. Lighting is provided by candles or gas lamps and there is a gas fridge-freezer. The lodge is self-catering and all guests are required to provide their own food which will be prepared by the resident cook according to their requirements. Supplies can be bought in Lilongwe.
Dzalanyama Forest Lodge is set overlooking the Makata River among the brachystegia trees which are maintained to attract a wide variety of birds and butterflies that frequent this habitat.
Dzalanyama also has two recently constructed free-standing tented chalets that are fully en-suit and have their own small verandah overlooking the stream and woodland beyond. It is the ideal retreat from which to enjoy bird-watching, hiking and to simply enjoy the solitude of the surrounding forest. Hyena, leopard and recently a small group of sable antelope have been sighted, along with the regular sightings of baboon and duiker.
