R 450

Situated on a peaceful small holding, we offer cottages for self-catering holidays and weekends. Enjoy beautiful scenery all around you from the privacy of your cottage in the stunning Champagne Valley.

All our units are different and fully equipped for self-catering, apart from our two Bed and Breakfast Rooms. Look up at the imposing Drakensberg Mountains of Champagne and Cathkin, with nearby access to the peaks of Cathedral Peak, the majestic amphitheatre at Royal Natal National Park, and Giants Castle.

Enjoy the rock swimming pool on a hot summer's day or the lovely sunsets from your own veranda. Sheep, cows and even guinea fowl stroll around the property at leisure, and our great dane will love and play with your children. Activities in the area include horse riding, fishing, walking, hiking, white-water rafting, bushman paintings, bird watching, local crafts, golfing, bowls and bass fishing about five kilometres away.

Being just four kilometres off the road that leads into the mountains, we have the best of both worlds, offering total peace and quiet in a friendly atmosphere. In the evenings, choose from three local restaurants or braai at your cottage while you plan your next day. We are happy to assist you with local outings or offer advice for travelling onwards.

Pleasant by

A very pleaseant stay but; The stove really needs to be replaced Some door handles were falling off, ie bedroom wardrobe door and bedroom door. A thicker and bigger blanket needed for the bed.

UK Visit by

This booking was done over the internet from the UK and with no knowledge of the area. On arrival and throughout our stay we would say it was a most enjoyable experience. The chalet we stayed in was clean and well equipped and the whole site was beautiful kept. Location was extremely good. I would recommend this accommodation.

Amazing, Relaxing Experience by

Very welcoming family! Felt comfortable and relaxed

Same time next year for sure by

It could not have been more perfect for our family, pet friendly, the dogs had freedom to play and roam, the kids had space and privacy to be kids, perfect setting, perfect warmth, welcome attitude of the manager Kyle, he came through for us in extra special ways.

Hi
My disappointed and anger delayed my response to your e-mail.

Firstly, if I was blindfolded and led into the cottage I would have been somewhat impressed with what I saw inside.

Now to relate my disappointments:

1. The venue advertised on your site was deceptive. The picture of the water feature, situated alongside the main house, is no way a representation of the location of the Cottage we had occupied.

2. Our accommodation was located about 300 metres from the main house, hidden among the pecan nuts trees which had shed all its dried leaves.

3. We were received by a staff member, Petunia who was referred to in a SMS I received then, as a "manager". For the duration of our stay Petunia was our host, housekeeper, breakfast cook, waiter, "manager" and consultant.

4. Our accommodation had 2 entrance doors with security gates that didn't have locks. The one at the kitchen entrance swings open on its own. On the first night the outside light, in front of this door, was blown and not replaced until we brought it to the attention of our "manager" the next day. So we slept the whole night in an isolated pitch-dark surrounding hidden among the trees. If some danger confronted us we would have had no support. The so-called flower garden around the this building was littered with dry leaves. In the four days we stayed no one cleaned around the house.

5. We never saw the owners of the premises who according to your guest review stated that they were very warm, hospitable and most welcoming. Probably they are "selective". Our only form of communication was SMS and Whatsapp.

6. We were told that there was a security guard who patrolled the area. We never saw one.

7. There were 2 unoccupied cottages next to the main house. WE could have been accommodated in one of these. It seemed as if they were 'selective' about who occupied them.

8. We never complained for fear of victimisation and harassment. We were an elderly couple.

9. The breakfast lapa was the most unappetising area to enjoy a morning breakfast on a freezing cold morning.

Our final rating is 1/10 and will never recommend Acorn Cottages to anyone.

Thank you.
