African Relish - Akkedis Cottage is typical Karoo accommodation surrounded by indigenous veld. The cottage is located in the quietest corner of Prince Albert with two bedrooms sleeping a total of four guests.

Both bedrooms have air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, panel heaters, fans and fully equipped kitchens. The dining room has an old black stove in keeping with the Karoo charm. One bedroom has a queen-size bed and the other bedroom has a king-size bed or two single beds. The cottage is self-catering with reeded ceilings, elegant, simple interiors and a large patio with braai facilities and furniture for outdoor living. All linen and towels are provided, with tea and coffee facilities and homemade rusks included.

The African Relish restaurant is open by arrangement for private functions and dinners. Cooking course participants will sometimes assist in the preparation of the dishes served to restaurant guests as part of the cooking experience. Guests are welcome to interact with our kitchen team and discuss the menu in between courses. Our menu changes each week, designed around season and local produce, and takes Karoo cuisine on a contemporary journey.

Don't judge a book by

First impressions as we drove up to the cottage were a little disappointing (broken shutters, bit run down). But inside, the old cottage (built 1856) has been very tastefully renovated and has a surprisingly upmarket 'air'. The surround/garden is indigenous and well kept, and the braai area/stoep is sheltered. It's probably worth staying 2 nights, especially if you arrive late pm - first night have a meal in the town, and braai the next night. We'll definitely book Akkedis cottage next time we stay over in PRINCE ALBERT.
