Altes Landhaus Country Lodge is a stately Cape Dutch-style homestead cradled in the fertile Schoemanshoek Valley of the Little Karoo. Built over 100 years ago, the homestead has been lovingly restored.

Its two bedrooms and seven suites combine antique furnishings with every modern comfort, whilst its elegant dining room is a joy to return to after a day spent exploring the scenic attractions of the Little Karoo and the natural beauty of the nearby Garden Route.

An ostrich farm, cheetah sanctuary and the awe-inspiring limestone Cango Caves are all nearby. Improve your short golf game on the pitch and putt practice green, or simply relax by the solar-heated salt water pool. Recently added to the lands bordering Altes Landhaus is the Karusa Private Winery. Wine tasting and light lunches are available at the private wine gallery and vineyard tours are offered by arrangement. Remember that Oudtshoorn is known for sunshine and smiles, scenic mountainous surroundings and our warm hospitality.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Altes Landhaus and found the hospitality and accommodation to be excellent. As we were tarvelling by motor cycyle it was wonderful when we arrived in our room that the bathroom was hot and the towel warmers had been switched on. When we arrived back from dinner we had replacement towels in our bathroom and the beds were re made. An exceptional service and friendly staff.

This is a five star rooming house not a five star lodge. Yes the rooms are excellent 5 star quality but I regret all of the rest is about 2 star.
