River. This self-catering gem comfortably accommodates up to 4 adults and 2 children, you couldn't imagine a more natural and tranquil environment. Ballots Bay is located in a private nature reserve abundant with a variety of wildlife, birds and fynbos. As you drive along the winding road leading you to Ballots Bay, you will soon realise that you are in for a truly special getaway. The drive itself is surrounded by lush vegetation and you will want to stop at the bridge and take in the river and waterfall on either side.
As you pass through the gates and continue straight down to the bay, Ballots Tree House is at the end of the road on the right accessed via steep wooden stairs. You might be slightly out of breath when you reach the top but you will instantly fall in love with this piece of heaven.The spacious, secluded deck overlooks the rugged beach and river. This is the perfect place to enjoy sun downers, relax or braai. Inside you will find a charmingly furnished open-plan living area with a lounge, dining room and fully equipped kitchen.
Downstairs are 3 cosy bedrooms, a main bedroom with a double bed, en-suite toilet and a luxurious corner bath perfect for honeymooners. The second bedroom has a double-bed and the third small bedroom, perfectly suited to 2 children, has a 2 bunk beds.
If you can possibly tear yourself away from this tranquil haven, Ballots Bay is conveniently close to Victoria Bay ? great surfing spot (10 minute drive), George ? perfect for shopping and exploring (15 minutes) or you could even head further and explore Sedgefield and Knysna which is only a 30 ? 40 minute drive.
This is definitely a bucket-list destination for nature lovers, honeymooners and families alike. Ballots Bay is one of the Garden Route's best kept secrets tucked away in a Nature Reserve between George and Wilderness. This beautiful nature reserve is abundant with wildlife. If you take a leisurely drive around the Ballot's Heights you are likely to spot Bush buck, Zebra, Grysbok, Bontebok and the easiest to find are Ostrich that roam the open plains at the top. If you explore further, you might be lucky to find the more elusive creatures such as Lynx, Porcupine, Bush Pig and Snakes. Ballots Bay is also home to approximately 130 species of birds, including the magnificent Knysna Loerie and is densely covered by a huge variety of fynbos.
Ballots Bay is truly a journey of discovery with plenty of walks/hikes. This includes a beautiful forest walk where you can stop for a picnic or braai surrounded by trees. You can also cool off in the secluded rock pools accessed via steep cliffs. Down at the Bay, there is a small pebble beach which is perfectly sheltered by steep cliffs on either side. This beach is well-loved by Fishermen, Beach Lovers and Nature Enthusiasts.! Here you can make use of the stone communal braai area ? the perfect place to prepare and cook your catch of the day if you are a keen Fisherman.
