Bergplaas Nature Reserve is situated in the heart of the South African Karoo, in the Sneeuberg mountain range of the Eastern Cape. It is approximately 330 km northwest of Port Elizabeth, not far from the towns of Nieu Bethesda and Graaff Reinet.
Bergplaas lies high above the ancient plains of the Camdeboo. With its 7,000 hectares of wilderness, the nature reserve offers plains, valleys, mountain streams, 300-million-year-old rocks and an abundance of wildlife. At an altitude of around 1,700 m, it keeps the hidden magic of raw and pure nature.
The wild semi-desert is home to a great diversity of flora and fauna. The trails you encounter are made by springbok, wildebeest, zebra and eland. Winters are harsh and beautiful in their solitude, while summer temperatures can vary from lavishly hot to surprisingly cold.
