Experience a true eco-retreat where you can relax in one of the most tranquil settings nature has to offer. Bergrivier is situated in beautiful, peaceful surroundings at the beginning or end of the Baviaanskloof route. We offer luxury accommodation in the rondavel, or a pioneer experience in an ox-wagon. Campers can pitch a tent at the beautiful campsite. This is a paradise for birdwatchers. The beautiful Knysna Loerie is seen quite often. At night you will hear the Night Jar calling and so often do you see the Crown Eagle soaring over the hills. The call of the Fish Eagle is also occasionally heard. Guests can enjoy a hike in the veld or kloof and, for the more adventurous, mountain biking can be arranged in the adjacent Longmore forest. This retreat is conveniently located in the scenic Eastern Cape, only 50 km west of Port Elizabeth, and close to the N2. The very popular beach resort, Jeffrey's Bay, is only 35 km away.

BERGRIVIER CHALETS EASTERN CAPE RESENSIES (90 %) Beautiful by Stephanie Moolman, South Africa Tuesday, 30 August 2011 A wonderful weekend camping getaway where "living off nature" is at its best! Our favourite was the old-school donkey (making a fire every morning for our hot shower) and the most beautiful walk up the river. We can't wait to do this again when we get back to see if our rock pile that we made is still standing. We will most definitely be back! Will just bring more drinking water next time! Overall the most wonderful weekend I have had in a long time! Thank you Oom Japie and Tannie Dorie. Amazing escape by Simone Greveling, South Africa Monday, 09 January 2012 An amazing escape just off the N2, in a beautiful part of the Eastern Cape. We were warmly welcomed and accommodated. It is ideal for nature lovers who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. I would have loved to stay longer and enjoy the waterfall, nature walk, and more. Amazing stargazing - a real highlight of our holiday! Frog calls galore! This is such a special place that every one needs to visit. Awesome stay by Liz Boy 22 August 2017 As usual Japie & Dorie was amazing in their welcome and goes out of their way for their guests. We loved our stay and enjoyed our walk to the waterfall. Amazing scenery all round. We are planning our next trip ? Nothing by Faizel Martin 16 January 2018 This picture is deceiving. If there's a lower marking than 1 star i will give that. We came there at night, didn't even bother to open the tents, slept in the car and as soon as sun was up we left. We booked to stay for 3 days. but never again
The ablutions and kitchen very primitive, spiders, goggas all over. not very clean
No drinking water
For swimming, the guy said u have to walk about an hour to the swimming pond.....and no guarantee there's water
Don't even speak bout the "donkey"
Overall i will never recommend this place to my friends and family.
I chose to loose the money i spend Nature sanctuary by Rina Van Der Merwe 21 February 2018 What a lovely stay. Beautiful nature surrounds with great hiking trails, lovely setting with an old feel. Owl hooting at night just toped it off. BERGRIVIER CHALETS EASTERN CAPE LIGGING
