I would recommend you to take these people off your listing. They are giving SafariNow a bad reputation because of Campbell Cottage. Do yourself a favour and do an unexpected inspection, you will be speechless. After paying the amount that we did we at least expected a decent holiday accommodation. We were totally shocked by what we found at Campbell cottage. I took pictures on my phone to show you but my memory card got a virus and I lost all my photos. It was totally disgusting?.I felt sick in an instant. Our accommodation was sooooooo dirty(understatement), it was shocking to think somebody expects you to live in that tipe of environment. We had to go and buy our own cups and cutlery as those they had in their kitchen could not be used because of the DIRT that was still stuck to it?. I had Lora come over to tell her that I'm really disappointed and can't use anything in the kitchen. At first I thought the toaster was rusted, but when looking closely it was actually dirty?.very?very?dirty? The cutlery was soooo dirty it was actually sticky?and not even to mension the stove on top. I'm getting sick all over again by just seeing that image. The meal or whatever the previous people prepared was still all over the stove. Whenever we wanted to use the kettle, we had to unplug the microwave and visa versa? The plugs kept on tripping, on a frequent basis we had to make sure the fridge was still working. Both the shower doors were broken, you couldn't close it properly as you stood with half the shower door in your hands. We couldn't use the table outside after a braai as the whole table was loose and wabbley. One afternoon after having a braai I heard my husband screaming for help and my little daughter of a year old was screaming. The bench the were sitting on fell backwards and both of them landed on the paving. Luckily my husband held onto our daughter and pressed her against his chest as he was falling straight onto his back. Luckily my daughter didn't get hurt but unfortunately my husband did. Only after having a fight with Lora they fixed everything with silicone. Whenever we wanted to use the pool, we had to ask them to please put their dogs inside the house. And the Jacuzzi they mention?it's just a pipe with holes attached to the first step of the swimming pool. This is no way of living when going on vacation. The couple that was staying at cottage B also had a bad experience, within the first few hour's of there stay the guy had to go and get stitches as the ceiling fan was not working and as he got onto a chair to have a look, the fan started turning?.hitting him against the head? Never in my whole life have I experienced something this BAD. After a long year behind us, our family was really looking forward to having an awesome vacation at Umhlanga, but with A BIG THANKS TO CAMPBELL COTTAGE our vacation was ruined. If you really want to ruin someone's vacation???..just send them to Campell Cottage. We got the fright of our lives. Campbell Cottage is disgusting filthy and not suited for holiday accommodation. Not even if I ran very fast would I reach the beach within 5 min, as they advertised? I'm begging you?please don't ruin other people's vacation?.neither your reputation.

Establishment's response

The couple had booked for 6 nights in December, and stayed for the 6 days, so I am amazed that they were as unhappy as they mentioned in their review, until the day they were departing when Mrs Pretorius used abusive, foul language that I had to walk away. It is true that on the day after they arrived they had pointed out that they felt the toaster was too rusty and the problem with the plug points. There had been a family staying in the same unit the day previous to them arriving (who, by the way, were very happy with the accommodation), and although it is no real excuse, I had not had the time to efficiently check all the electrics etc. and replace items that seem to disappear or need upgrading. Living near to the ocean, items do corrode quickly. We immediately replaced the toaster, the electricity adapters and cutlery. The same for the shower door, the door operated although some of the runners had broken on the bottom, making it perhaps a little sticky ? again, trying to get handymen out to repair things after 14th December is a nightmare ? and on our preliminary checks at the beginning of December the door operated perfectly well. This door has now been replaced ? although I could not see how the door was coming off in the hands of Mrs Pretorius as the workman battled to disassemble the door in order to replace it. The units are serviced every weekday, not weekends or public holidays, and cleaned thoroughly. The family seemed to enjoy the pool area, including the ?Jacuzzi? which they complain about, as they made use of the pool and ?Jacuzzi? every afternoon. Being a pet friendly establishment, and advertised as such, surely guests booking in would realize that there may be pets around. The largest dog is a cross maltese, the other 2 being dachshunds. A simple request once from the family to remove the dogs from the garden area was all that was needed to keep the dogs out of that area. What the family neglected to mention about the husband's accident is that the garden furniture he fell from was a concrete bench ? the type where you have two concrete pillars with a curved concrete seat around a round concrete table. This has been there for a while and never moved, as it is too heavy to move at least by one person. So, how Mr Pretorius managed to fall off a concrete bench is astounding especially as the bench had been there the whole of their stay and it was on the last day only that he fell. Regarding the people in the adjoining cottage having had an accident ? it had nothing to do with the fan not working, so Mrs Pretorius should get her facts correct before spreading rumours ? and, the couple who had stayed in that unit have written a letter to me to thank me for the lovely holiday they enjoyed at Campbell Cottage unit B.
Yours sincerely

A very pleasant stay! by

I had a lovely neat and clean room, nice quality linen and towels. The newly designed garden outside my room was peaceful and relaxing. The owner Lola was very accommodating, I left my toiletries behind and Lola gave me a complimentary pack with everything I needed. Good value!
