The colonial charm of the house and its setting is an experience in itself.Dwarsvlei farm house is an old British farm house on a beautiful farm just outside Middelburg on the N9 in the Eastern Cape. This remote paradise used to be a thriving horse stud farm and is now used to farm sheep.

The house boast beautiful high ceilings with old British architecture surrounded by an exquisite garden hidden away in a secret poplar forest. If you are looking to get away from the city to take time to hear the birds sing, spending time at Dwarsvlei is for you.

Dwarsvlei, as it was called was established about the middle of the 19th Century. The first homestead, with some original reed ceilings, still stands next to the homestead which we now occupy. There is an old wagon track believed to be the earliest road from Graaff Reinet passing through our vlei, where a rock with names etched into the surface marks the site of an outspan point.
