Nice surroundings, bad vibes by

The house is situated in a very nice resort, and we had high hopes for a great holiday. Unfortunately, things didn't start off great ... and got steadily worse. When we arrived, the house was really not very clean. One of our daughters' toys rolled underneath a chair, and when we moved it aside, there were large pieces of broken glass and piles of dust swept underneath, right where my kids were playing. One day we arrived from the beach during the morning to find what was presumably the cleaning lady's kids' washing hanging all over the place to dry. Still, we didn't complain or make a fuss. However, over the weekend the once-quiet resort turned into a noisy nightmare. Friday night, we were kept up until way past two in the morning by people three or four houses from us playing music and having a boisterous party. The next day we complained at the office, only to be told other residents had also complained, but there wasn't much their management could do about it. Saturday night the noise was even worse. At about one o'clock the Sunday morning, we were fed up. Our kids were crying because they couldn't sleep, and we ourselves hadn't slept a wink. I called the number on the resort's brochure. The resort manager answered and promised to do something about the situation. About 10 minutes later, we heard the security guard talking to the neighbours, and things quieted down. Minutes later there was a knock on our door. It was the resort manager, furious because we had called him and there was no noise! Even though we told him his own security guard shut the party up just minutes earlier, he wouldn't believe us - and he was fuming because he told us he had called out the armed security in town and wasted their time. He also claimed that (contrary to what the lady at reception had told us the previous day) NO ONE else had complained about any noise the previous night. Minutes after he left (he lives in neigbouring Kleinemonde, apparently), the noise started up again, louder than before. After about half an hour of this, I called him again, this time making him listen to the noise over my phone. (Which he was struggling to hear, apparently - still suggesting we were over-reacting.) We had a night from hell, and the ordeal put a pretty bad vibe on our holiday. In spite of the nice amenities, swimming pool, etc, we will never EVER stay at this place again. (Oh, and just before the end of our stay, the owner called to let us know we still owe him money, even though we had paid the full amount through SafariNow well before leaving home. After we sent through the payment details, he was satisfied. By then, we were quite ready to just pack up and leave for home.)

Establishment Response:

Dear Elize. We are so sorry to hear about your bad experience. We do unfortunately get noisy guests from time to time and we try our best to deal with problems as they arise. We have addressed your concerns with the resort management and they will deal better with these kinds of problems in the future. We strive to continually provide better service to guests and give good value for money. At R720 per day for a family of 4 for a 3 bedroom Villa I still believe that you got very good value for money.

Kind regards
Garth
