Humala River Lodge is situated within the greater Songimvelo Game Reserve, a 49,000-hectare paradise in the Mpumalanga province bordering Swaziland. Here you can start your day with a cup of coffee overlooking the sprawling landscapes below, and end the day with the sounds of nature lulling you to sleep. This is the ideal destination for a digital detox, a honeymoon, or a hideout for the city dweller.
Accommodation is offered in 10 luxurious tent and thatched rooms. Each room offers a covered verandah with lovely views of the valley below, as well as an en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower and twin basins. Bath towels and toiletries are provided, and the room is equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities. Each room is equipped with either a king-size bed or 2 single beds. Guests can specify which they would prefer on booking.
The central guest facilities comprise a reception, a lounge, and a dining and bar area. During hot summer days guests can cool off in the swimming pool and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The boma is situated approximately 100 m from the dining area; here guests can spend evenings round a crackling fire meeting new people. On Saturday evenings, the lodge has a boma meal and dance alongside the Swazi dancers as they put on a show for guests.
All meals are included in the stay. There are 2 daily game drives included in the stay; all game drives are under the supervision of qualified guides and undertaken in purpose-built game drive vehicles. Enjoy the opportunity to spot various game such as buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard, wildebeest, waterbuck, and zebra. Remember your binoculars, camera and something warm to wear. The night drives are a special experience to observe the nocturnal animals. Highly knowledgeable field guides lead game walks with the focus being on identifying different plant species, animal spoor and the abundant bird life. It is an easy walk along a game track path next to the Komati River. Other activities include a rock art site walk, birding, and fly-fishing.
The lodge has electricity but there is no cell phone signal. Wi-Fi is available in the central guest area. Please note the lodge is not suitable for children younger than 12. Guests are required to bring their own insect and tick repellent.
