Katavi National Park consists of a series of secret floodplains that open up in front of you as you arrive through their woodland fringes and is Tanzania's third largest and most remote National Park.
Katavi Wildlife Camp offers guests a choice of eight camouflaged tents on elevated wooden platforms. Each tent has a large veranda with views of the Kitasunga Plain. Tents can be made up as double, twin or single tents and mosquito nets are provided. The en-suite bathrooms consist of showers only and electricity is provided for selected periods of time. Power is available for lighting and recharging batteries but not for hair dryers.
Accommodation includes breakfast, lunch and dinner and tea and coffee is complimentary and available at all times of day. Special diets can be catered for with prior notification. Soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are available from the bar throughout the day.
The lodge is set in a glade of tall acacia trees, providing a cool and camouflaged place from which to witness the herds as they run the gauntlet. The area is excellent for birdwatching with over 400 species of birds identified particularly around its lakes. Game drives are taken in open, adapted 4WD vehicles with tiered seating and roof shading. Walking safaris can be done and guests are accompanied by a ranger and an expert guide with excellent local knowledge of the park. Take a fly camping expedition from Katavi Wildlife Camp to get even further off the beaten track to your own private camp hosted by a guide, following seasonal game trails by foot or road. Fly camping can be pre booked for a minimum of two nights.
Katavi Wildlife Camp is an incredible place and has a truly wild, almost primeval feel, which hits you intensely from the moment you first see the game scattered over the Katisunga flood.
