The atmosphere at the Lion King Bush Camp is informal, authentic, and ideal for the adventure traveller.

Come and dine under the stars, before communing around the fire and listening to owner Nahim entertain with stories from a lifetime spent in the African bush.

Accommodation consists of four private and luxurious tents, each with an outside seating area, a double bed and private bathroom with shower.

Full-board rates include accommodation, three home-cooked meals a day, and an early morning tea and coffee. End your weekends off with a traditional Sunday roast, complete with all the trimmings.

The camp is home to many species of bird and other small animals, with each occupying their own place amid the surrounding trees and bush land.

Samburu National Reserve offers indescribable beauty, an abundance of wildlife, and a sense of remoteness which sets it apart from its more famous counterparts. It is a wonderful base from which to explore greater Samburu, the spectacular mountains of Matthews Range and the undulating hills of Laikipia to the west.

Excellent, secluded and back to a real safari by

Marissa and Nahim were extremely helpful and welcoming, from booking to exit of the camp. We spent 3 days/ 2 nights at Lion King Bush Camp and it was amazing. Elephants walking near the tent, beautiful birds, lions and even a leopard. And of cause zebra, giraffe gazelles, antelopes etc. We rented a 4x4 in Nairobi and drove to Samburu, which was a great detour but long and at times a hot trip. We arrived at the camp after watching game. We were welcomed by Nahim and staff to our lovely tent by the river. We were the only people in camp and had a great time. There was a power cut, but Marissa and Nahim managed perfectly - they went to a nearby lodge for cool refreshments etc. Food was simple but extremely well made and the service excellent. We had all our meals in front of our tent overlooking the river. Returning in the evening from game drives, the outdoor bush shower was a real treat. Without electricity the moon and safari lamps did the work and made it very special. A night I would lie in bed watching the stars though the netting of the tent and enjoy the bush noises of small and big animals nearby. I recommend lion king bush camp to all with an adventurous soul and spirit - it is great an exceptional place, but don't expect ordinary 5 star luxury. It is definitely A 5 star experience. If I have the chance I will return ;-)

Not your standard, boring safari camp by

This place is not for everyone. But for those who enjoy a more natural place to stay - this is your type of place. Outdoor showers and the need to walk outside of your tent to use the toilet are all part of its charm.

We did not want to pay the extra to stay in a place with a safari guide as we rented a 4x4 in Nairobi and did our own driving in Samburu. I am sure that we saw more than they did. Twice in one day, we followed two sister lionesses. One time stalking a leopard. Elephants mating.

The price of admission to Sanburu is WAY TOO high and to be honest, I think? it was worth it. But it also seems to me that most of the monies from the entrance fees goes into some corrupt official's pocket. The roads are not in great condition, hardly any signage, and no maps.

But it was great staying at the Lion King - food was good and homey. Nice sitting around the fire at night. Bring your own wine.
