Madikela Game Lodge is situated in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, 32 km outside Vaalwater on the Melkrivier Road, and a comfortable two-hour, 15-minutes drive from Pretoria. Madikela, meaning "Place of the Setting Sun", is situated on a limestone plateau which was formed millions of years ago. This limestone, which rests on a granite base, has in time eroded, forming the most amazing rock formations.
The main garden area features a large swimming pool, 18-hole minigolf, a jungle gym, and games room. Accommodation comprises six secluded, thatched, self-catering cottages, each with its own game-viewing deck, a Jacuzzi splash pool, and enclosed barbecue boma.
The Bush Camp is located 80 m from the main swimming pool and consists of four thatched bungalows, each sleeping nine guests. Features at the camp include a ladies and gents ablution block with hot showers and flushing toilets, and a bush kitchen in the barbecue boma with a large fridge-freezer.
Facilities include a big lapa with ample tables and chairs and kitchen for informal wedding, birthday, reunions and celebrations etc Activities include a 4X4 trail which takes approximately five hours to complete, with exit routes provided to shorten the trail if required. The reserve also offers the most wonderful sand stone formations, and many guests have enjoyed climbing onto these rocks for a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Waterberg. To view game such as giraffe, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, blesbuck, impala, warthog and baboons, one can either self-drive, cycle or walk. Due to safety issues, buffalo may only be viewed from outside the electrified camp.
In addition, there are three fully licensed restaurants within 4 km of Madikela, where apart from enjoying a fine meal, one can view tigers, white lion, leopard, caracal, hyena, wolves, reptiles, and birds of prey.
