Mafube Mountain Retreat is a little slice of heaven; set in an amphitheatre of colourful sandstone cliffs with stunning views from every window, it is the perfect place for a bit of soul therapy. It is a wonderful place to clear your head and experience the peace and tranquillity of unspoiled Africa.

Mafube Mountain Retreat is situated on a 465-hectare farm in the Eastern Free State Highlands, which is one of the most beautiful areas in South Africa. It is a place to escape the crowds and hassles of city life. It is a place to bring the children during the holidays, away from the shopping malls, television and computers.

Explore the hiking trails and mountain paths. Visit the waterfalls, pools and caves, bird watch, fish or canoe; or simply unwind, in a place where the silence sings.

We are only a 20-minute drive from the popular tourist village of Clarens, where there are many good restaurants, shops and art galleries. The town also has an 18-hole golf course. We are 45 minutes from Golden Gate National Park and only a few kilometres away from the border post of the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.

Lesotho's spectacular Katse Dam is in easy reach and Afriski, of which many of our guests take a day to, is only 80 km from Fouriesburg. The Fouriesburg area is well known for its adventure tourism, including quad biking, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, 4x4 trails and river rafting.

Mafube Mountain Retreat offers accommodation in three self-catering units that ensure a peaceful and relaxing stay. All our units are supplied with high quality bed linen and towels which are changed twice a week. No servicing of the units will be done during the Covid 19 pandemic for the safety of both guests and staff.

Mafube Mountain Retreat has a spacious lapa for an special functions or gatherings. Table tennis, darts and DStv are available in the lapa. There is a swimming pool, trampoline and swings and a popular Plantation playground with a safe zip-line for children under 40 kg. to keep the children entertained. We also have braai facilities at each unit.

What a wonderful place! We really enjoyed our stay at Mafube Mountain Retreat. The setting is so beautiful and tranquil and the chalet is very clean and comfortable and we felt very much at home. The walk to see the dinosaur footprints is an absolute must, they are truly amazing. Mafube is the ideal place for nature lovers to come and recharge their 'batteries'. Thank you Hillary and Chris!
