Mid-way between Ficksburg and Fouriesburg in the picturesque Eastern Free State, lies Malutizicht Lodge, just 23 km from each and 50 km from the artist's mecca of Clarens. The Lesotho border is some 20 minutes away and gives easy access to superb trout fishing and other leisure pursuits.

Malutizicht Lodge can be reached in about three and a half hours from Johannesburg. Malutizicht Lodge consists of an English-style cottage that sleeps eight people and a sandstone farmhouse that sleeps ten people. The two houses are interlinked by a covered passage way and indoor swimming pool area. Each bedroom features an en-suite bathroom with twin and double beds are available. All accommodation is self-catering only and fully serviced.

Absolutely lovely stay in a beautiful setting and a lovely house by

What a wonderful spot, and we are sure to return. Besides the heavy rain, everything was just about perfect. The accommodation was clean and large, as well as well furnished. What a lovely fire place and the views. Enjoyed a lovely walk on the well marked trail to the top of the mountain at the back of the lodge.

You get what you pay for by

We stayed here as part of a five-night trip around Lesotho and although Malutizicht was the most expensive, it was also the best place to stay at. The lodge was warm, saving us from the cold winter; and the hosts Roger and Theresa were really friendly and helpful. Evelyn, the maid, did a really good job making sure everything was clean. We wish we could've stayed longer to explore the area.

Unfortunately, the fish did not cooperate, but it was a very quiet and relaxing stay. One of the showers upstairs had a little drain problem.
