Ntchisi Forest Lodge sits on the escarpment of the East African Rift Valley in some of Malawi's last remaining indigenous rainforest in an isolated spot near Lilongwe, Malawi's capital. Guests can relax while enjoying stunning mountain and lake views, experience the warm-hearted hospitality of a part of rural Malawi where tourists are still a rarity, and enjoy walking or mountain biking in the beautiful scenery.
Rare birds and beautiful orchids are abundant and there's always a strong possibility that guests will see samango monkeys, baboons, antelope and hyenas near the lodge. We serve a delicious dinner of local specialities and international dishes, which can be followed by a few drinks in our Rainforest Bar. Accommodation at the lodge consists of five rooms; one family room that accommodates five guests, two double rooms and two twin rooms with two single beds in each. All five rooms are en-suite, have comfortable beds and are beautifully furnished in a fusion of African and Colonial styles.
The lodge itself is a historical Colonial building dating from 1914, making it one of Malawi's oldest buildings, and is ideal for cosy evenings relaxing by a roaring log fire and soaking up the Old World charm. At Ntchisi Forest Lodge we take our social and environmental responsibilities very seriously. The lodge is operated purely on renewable sources of energy and guests will get a sense of our commitment to the environment in the delicious home-grown food and by hiking and biking in the wonderful surrounding nature.
When visiting Africa, we are always keen to let guests experience the local food culture, and we serve a variety of African specialities. We can also make fine Western dishes such as chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella cheese and sun-dried tomatoes or roast rack of lamb in a herb crust. For the kids, or those longing for simpler pleasures, we can always rustle up home-made fish and chips, burgers and pizzas. We use almost only local produce and grow most of our own herbs and vegetables in our organic perma-culture kitchen garden.
The lodge is located in a very safe malaria-free area. Our staff are always happy to look after smaller children while their parents relax and our chef will happily accommodate younger palates. Though there is lots to do for young, curious explorers, we are also in the process of building a playground to provide additional entertainment.
