Onderhoek is a beautiful working wine farm situated just three kilometres outside Vredendal on the R363. Vredendal is possibly best known for its famous wines and situated in the beautiful Olifants River valley.

We offer one self-catering unit sleeping two guests and a campsite for 20 people.

Renowned for its intricate irrigation scheme, the Olifants River allows for extensive agriculture and viticulture in the area. The valley is green and fertile, surrounded by the majestic Gifberg, Maskam and Koebee peaks, creating a peaceful haven with a magical setting for getting away from it all.

Vredendal is centrally located and the ideal base from which to explore the wild flowers in Spring, Namaqualand, the rugged Cape West Coast and the sandstone Matzikama Mountains. It includes the large vineyards of Namaqua Wines, Klawer and Lutzville and a number of petite boutique cellars, all of which produce some reward winning wines. Experience also the typical West Coast hospitality.

It was a wonderful weekend in tranquil surroundings - absolutely perfect for unwinding.

Out of the way by

This site is off the main route between Namibia and Cape Town. The owner was a mine of information about the area, especially the flowers. We were very comfortable camping at Onderhoek.

Warm Hospitality by

Despite the extreme drought that was depressing, the owners of Onderhoek Farm were warm-hearted and friendly. The caravan park consists of 3 or 4 sites located in the fruit orchard. Ablutions were basic but very clean.

Quiet and peacefull by

Nice place to stay, friendly owner.

Green paradise in the drought by

The camp site has beautiful trees and lawn which in this drought is great. But it could do with a steakhouse style table or work area for food prep. The ablutions while okay could do with a revamp. The dogs are a bit intrusive but possibly a good security help. The hostess is very welcoming and helpful.
