Located in the historic town of Bathurst, this 189-year-old pub, restaurant, and hotel is believed to be the oldest continuously operating pub in South Africa and is a Heritage site.

The Pig & Whistle Inn has 10 beautifully restored rooms and is a blend of historic ambiance and modern facilities. There are four en-suite rooms and six traditional, old-fashioned rooms with communal bathrooms.

Owned by Lucille and Gavin Came, the inn is renowned for its food and Old World charm. Generations of visitors, harking back to Lord Charles Somerset, can say "I've had a swig at the Pig".

We love it! by

From booking in to checking out, everything was perfect. The rooms were clean, airy comfortable, the pub a great place to meet, and the general 'feel' was warm and welcoming. Topping all that was friendliness of the staff. We'll be back again and again.

Good stay by

We had an enjoyable stay. the room was large and airy, the bed a good size and comfortable. The meals were well prepared and reasonably priced. The hotel management were very helpfull and the hotel itself has a certain charm.

The atmosphere and beauty of town by

We enjoyed the atmosphere, and friendly staff. Value for money.wood fires in winter.we had nice room with new bathroom.a nice meal in pub...smoking allowed in pub...but one can go outside on the verandah or lounge area.bed comfortable with electric blanket. All very nice..towels could be a bit larger. Breakfast was awesome. .good coffee. Great historical 1820 Settler village..worth the visit. Great owners. Fabulous antiques in Inn, and for sale.Sunday lunch ...worth the visit.

Perfect end to a road trip by

This was our last stop after a road trip through the Transkei.... and it was perfect. Beautiful rooms, delicious food and fun bar. Beautiful town and really affordable accommodation. Highly recommend it!
