Nestled between the town of Paterson and the Addo Elephant National Park, Pure Nature Familodge offers a relaxing getaway to guests. It is a great option for nature enthusiasts visiting this lush part of the Eastern Cape.

There are three houses on offer to cater to the needs of travellers. One of the options is a renovated farm house and has one bedroom and a private bathroom. One house can sleep up to four guests and the last house can sleep up to six guests.

These houses have well-equipped kitchens and living spaces. Each house has a terrace or a private deck offering lovely views of the waterfall, the pond or the surrounding area. Two of these houses also have indoor fireplaces for those chilly winter evenings.

Guests staying on the property will have exclusive game-viewing opportunities. Wild life include meerkats, kudu, warthogs, zebra and giraffe. Many of the animals are tame and can even be touched and fed. There is also a petting zoo with goats, sheep and ducks. This makes it a great option for families as well.

We loved our stay and found our host, Olaf, to be really friendly and caring. The views from our wooden chalet were beautiful with sightings of elephant, buffalo and rhino in the distance. We feel Safari Now have let them and their customers down by giving extremely innaccurate instructions on finding the farm and contact details. This could negatively affect their business.

Very nice hosts and family by

I will start with what we liked: 1. The host family. When we arrived, we were welcomed very warmly by Olaf, his wife, their 3 kids, dogs and cats. They gave us a lot of pointers about where to visit, where to buy food etc. Our kids felt right at home and disappeared for several hours, visiting the different animals and playing with the host children. 2. Attention to detail. The accommodation was clean and serviced daily. They even had a box of toys in the kids' bedroom. The not-so-good: 1. No electricity! There was nothing on SafariNow stating that the accommodation we booked (Addo Park View) had no electricity. So, imagine our shock when we finally drove up to the house at night to start making dinner, only to find out that there were no lights, only lanterns. Our hostess came up later with solar lanterns, but I still wouldn't have booked this accommodation (especially with 3 small children) if I had known that there was no electricity. 2. The directions to the lodge itself is very minimal and can be very confusing to someone who does not know the area. 3. The road to our accommodation, Addo Park View, is very bad and should be redone with gravel. There should also be a warning on Safari that only people with 4 x 4 trucks should consider booking this accommodation. Luckily, we were driving a 4 x 4 but we still got the fright of our lives as we driving down the next morning (after a lot of rain in the night) and the truck was sliding left, right and straight down, going about 5kmph! We used every traction possible and barely made it down the steep, muddy and wet incline. A normal car would have had no chance of getting down.
