Rorke's Drift Hotel overlooks a wide sweep of the Buffalo River on the slopes of Shiyane/The Oscarberg, in the rolling hills of Zululand. The historic crossing that gives the area its name is within our grounds and was the connection between the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift.
Our comfortable modern facilities are priced to meet the needs of the discerning traveller who will enjoy peaceful relaxation in the rural landscape, surrounded by iconic history and natural countryside.
Visitors will be stunned by our position overlooking the Buffalo River, with its open views across the river towards Isandlwana, and by its architectural design that is a modern amalgam of Zulu and Victorian cultures. Arriving guests will see the array of the large round buildings that provide all the facilities for the hotel. The round style of the buildings with natural coloured finishes and their thatched roofs draws from the Zulu tradition, and the unique roof design provides spacious rooms and generous natural light. The extensive deck extends around the dining and lounge areas.
The accommodation/forts have open centres which give access to each of the double en-suite rooms. Here the traditional Zulu style is left on the outside while the décor and finishes in the centre are inspired by the Victorians. The furnishings of the rooms will reflect the era of the Victorian soldier, with each room named after a distinguished warrior of the campaign.
