Shakati lies on the Mokolo River in the heart of the malaria-free Waterberg UNESCO Biosphere Reserve; only 2½ hours drive from Johannesburg. Small, beautiful and affordable safari lodge with a lounge, dining area, boma, pool, a lush garden and 3 comfortable self-catering chalets with verandah and own braai area (we sell firewood). Each chalet sleeps 4-6 persons. Catering on request. All of the accommodation is surrounded by an electric fence for your safety and security.
There is a variety of wildlife to view: Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu, Reedbok, Hartebeest, Eland, Blesbok, Duiker, Steenbok, Warthog, Impala, Jackal, Hyena, Porcupine and much more. You can enjoy guided game drives and -walks with our reserve manager and you can sleep-over in the waterhole hide and experience the life and sounds of the African night.

Not Impressed by

The cottage was very sparse with only one chair in the main room, there is no oven only a 3 ring gas hob and a microwave.

Establishments response:

We are very surprised of the Gartshore review. The friendly couple booked in to Shakati and the manager went every day to see them and ask if they were happy or had any problems or requests. As to the oven the manager told them that Shakati used a combination of methane/electricity to secure guest cooking in case of power failure -as most guests prefer an open braai in our boma. He also informed the couple that they can any time use the Lapa oven/plates just a few meters away from their chalet. All chalets have multiple chairs and is furnished in the African Bush style. We are in the process of upgrading the chairs in the chalets, thus we apologize for the inconvenience. If the couple just had informed the manager that they wished another of the comfortable chairs it would have arrived in their chalet instantly. The Gartshore couple is welcome anytime back at Shakati to experience our exceptional bush experience, and we welcome all feedback.
