The main industry is pineapple, dairy and beef farming, vacation and retirement destination, while there are other privately owned businesses related to game farming and the building industry etc. The main attractions are the beach and seaside related activities, out-door and sports, game drives, dining out, but best of all, doing nothing. The weather is temperate and sunny. Even in winter, depending where you are from, days are warm and sunny with nights requiring light cover-up. Being a coastal town the breeze can be brisk about two days a month.
