The Underberg Hotel, is under new management and is situated on the main road of the small town of Underberg and also features a pub and tour operator on the premises. Underberg lies beneath the majestic mountains in the southern Drakensberg and forms part of the Sani Saunter.Underberg Hotel offers accommodation in Luxury, Standard and Backpacker-style rooms. The Luxury and Standard rooms feature en-suite bathrooms and a TV with local channels, while the backpacker-style rooms share a bathroom located in the passage. Off-street parking is also provided for guests' use.Guests can make use of a small lounge area that opens up into a dining room and there is also a veranda leading off the dining room area in to a small but splendour garden. In addition, the hotel offers a clothing and gift shop on site. On the site country pub has a lovely warm atmosphere and features a fireplace, TVs with sport channels, and an open courtyard area with another TV. The restaurant offers home cooked meals, braais, roasts and burgers. Activities in the area include tubing on the Umzimkhulu River, hiking, golf, tennis, bowls, horse riding, quad biking, mountain biking, and fly-fishing, Lesotho day trips and over land trips.

The room that I used was clean but the toilet was not flushing, there was no cold water in the bath. The left hand side mirror of my car that was parked in the hotel parking was broken and fender bent by patrons of the hotel's pub while I was sleeping. When I reported that incident the following day to the 'lady owner' of the hotel, she protected her patrons whom she knows by telling me that there were people who tried to break into my car and her 'locals' stopped them, which wasn't true because there was a guard there at night as a owner she did not report the incident to the police and it seems as if my car was broken by people who were fighting. Also the lady owner did not even apologize for that incident. Definitely be careful if you sleep over at this place.

Nice and affordable stay by

We were 3 couples and we enjoyed our stay very much ! It is similar to any 3 star hotel in Europe - the rooms were clean and neat and the bedding excellent !
We want to recommend it to any one who is looking for a good nights rest in a spacious and clean room !
The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the locals laughter and jokes  in the pub.
I am sure if one wants to complain you will find something - but all I can say is : " WE enjoyed it !"



Stay at Underberg Hotel by

The room needed a lot of maintenance and updating. Bulbs weren't working, Carpet was ripped, Tap fittings were loose, there was no hot water, it was luke warm. Meal was good, nice cosy fire, but restaurant could do with a bit of sprucing up too

An old, filthy , mouldy establishment by

An old, filthy, mouldy establishment where we definitely did not see our way clear to stay for the night.
No showers, only baths, which is a problem for elderly people, and which we mentioned to the manager.
He, however, was very helpful and understanding. He agreed to book us with a friendwho has a B&B in Underberg, the latter, very clean and pleasant to stay.

Not whatvexpected by

The place is very very out dated with a lack of maintanance. Carpets are filthy.
