Ultima Thule cottages are situated on a working farm at the crest of a hill in the beautiful Natal Midlands. The cottages afford amazing views of the magnificent Drakensberg range as well as the beauty of the surrounding countryside. The sunsets over the mountains can be quite breathtaking
Our focus is to offer a tranquil and secure retreat far from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and to ensure that your stay leaves you refreshed and relaxed.
After a good night's sleep, you may wake to the lowing of the cattle, the chatter of the guinea fowl and francolin and the call of the cockerel welcoming the new day.

There is wood for the braai and complimentary pure spring water to quench your thirst. Take a gentle stroll across the land whilst drinking in the views or take a walk across the pastures up to the seats in the forest area and look across at The Berg or down to the cattle grazing peacefully below. Test your stamina and take a walk down to the dam, or you could just lie back on one of the loungers and enjoy the peace and quiet. One can see duiker, reedbuck, bushbuck, blesbuck and if you are lucky the caracul. Lie in bed and listen to the call of the jackal. If buck are not your thing then take your binoculars and bird watch to your hearts content. A small selection of the birds to be seen include the Black Headed Oriole, The Bokmakierie, Burchell's Coucal (the rain bird) Cape Robin, Crowned Eagle, Red Breasted Cuckoo, Diederiks Cuckoo, Southern Boubou, green wood hoopoe, fish eagle and various Sun Birds.
We are 20 minutes from the centre of Howick with all its shops and eateries, not to forget the Howick falls which, when in full flood, is a beautiful sight. We are also central to some of the best restaurants in the Midlands. We are on the Meander route with all its many fascinating shops with its different routes that cater for you whether you are interested in art, collectibles, leatherwear, cheeseries or something delicious to eat. Midmar Dam with all its recreational facilities and the Mandela Capture Site are close at hand. We are convenient to Karkloof Canopy Tours, Abingdon Winery, Terbodore coffee roasters and many of the popular wedding venues that the area has to offer.
