African Ranches River Camp is situated on the banks of the second largest river in southern Africa, the majestic Limpopo River. The camp offers an ideal spot for a weekend getaway or an overnight stop en route to central or northern Botswana. The facility offers campsites with clean ablution facilities. The campsites have sweeping river views and the terrain is scattered with a large variety of indigenous trees and offers incredible bird life for the keen bird-watcher. Enjoy the sight of hippos frolicking in the water, as well as crocodiles lazing in the sun. Guests can also enjoy hiking, mountain biking and fishing. This is definitely the epitome of camping. Spend your days in the shadows of the large trees and listen to their gentle whispers at night while sleeping under a star-studded sky far away from any city life. Located only 32 km from Martin's Drift/Groblersbrug Border Post, it is only a four-hour drive from Johannesburg and a four-hour drive from Gaborone. The property is accessible by all vehicles.

AFRICAN RANCHES RIVER CAMP REVIEWS (89 %) Small but almost perfectly formed by Adam Sanderson, South Africa Monday, 07 January 2013 After a long drive up from Durban, the campsite offered us a good first night in Botswana, and on the banks of the Limpopo.
The overall space for camping is quite small and, with another large(ish) group there, it did seem somewhat crowded. Although, if you don't mind being in close proximity to your neighbours, this is no problem in itself.
Again, although small, the ablution block is almost perfectly formed offering private toilet, shower and basin facilities. My caveat of 'almost' is solely restricted to the lack of electricity during our stay which, although not a problem for us, may be for others. Having said that though, it did seem that work was underway to add lighting to the ablution block in the near future.
Given its location, access is something else to consider. It's not a problem at all as most people will be in a 4x4 vehicle; however, after driving on tarred roads for a long time, you do need to drop tyre pressure for the 25km drive to camp off the main road. This isn't a problem but if you're continuing your journey the following day, the reinflating of tyres will add a little time to your journey; just something to be aware of and certainly does not detract from the site.
All in all, I'd recommend this site to anyone that needs a peaceful place to stay with a great riverside location once you've crossed the border into Botswana, or before crossing back into SA. Amazing long weekend by Theunis Nel, South Africa Monday, 11 February 2013 We were welcomed at the gate by Johannes. He is very friendly. Arriving at the offices we were welcomed by Martin and he took us to the campsite. The site was very clean and well prepared. The ablution facility is of very high standard. Very clean and they supplied us with nice smelling towels. That was a real surprise.
The fire area was cleaned early in the morning and the new fire was lid. This was ideal for your early morning coffee.
The birdlife is wow. It is very dark and quite during the night. We really enjoyed it and will be back soon with the family. Went to Solomon's wall and did not even see an elephant. Maybe we will see them next time. WHEN WE STOP BIG PUFFADDER AT THE WATER TAP by Johan Meiring 20 July 2017 VERY NICE STILL AND ITS LOVELY WITH THE RIVER SEE SOME CROCS AND HIPPOS Tranquil by Mandy Joubert 03 January 2018 It was a great stop over before crossing the border, a great way to end off the holiday. Very peaceful next to the river, lots of birds and also saw crocodile in the river. Ablutions were very neat. I would recommend this place. Limpopo River flowing!!! by Annatjie Erasmus 03 April 2018 We had a lovely time on the banks of a full Limpopo River, with the hippo's visiting us at night and having fun in the river. Seeing all the birds and the call of the Fish Eagle gave us all the peace and rest after a busy first quarter of the year. Thanks to Sam for his hospitality,he is a great guy. The ablution block was very neat and clean and hot showers available. In future they will see us again. Annarjie Erasmus, Mokopane, Limpopo. Clean, convenient, close to nature by Corrie Mynhardt 19 May 2018 We loved it. Exceeded our expectations. Sam was so supportive, had flu and never missed a beat stoking the warm water donkey. Hippos close by at night and saw bushbuck and a bull of a crock in the river. The Botswana monkeys are well behaved, wow... Never pestered us. You will see us again. Hippos in the river and a huge croc sunbathing in front of us all day by Sam Duncan 16 July 2018 Lovely camp site for a night or two. Loved being supplied with firewood and clean dry towels! Nice campsite on the Limpopo River with good shade by Jeremy Franklin 05 August 2018 Overall a good experience. One of the two showers did not work properly (cold water tap did not work).
