Guest House (family units from R 1,200)

Aloes Guest House is situated in the small town of Pitseng Ha Tau which lies in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains. An oasis of peace and calm in the midst of wild nature, Aloes combines comfortable, spacious accommodation with the renowned hospitality of the Basotho people. We offer bed and breakfast-style accommodation in beautiful stone and thatch cottages, situated amongst lovely flower gardens. We also cater to backpackers with smaller, simple traditional rondavels and camping is available for those seeking a more rustic adventure.

The main building of Aloes is a classic Colonial-style sandstone house, dating back to the 19th century, which has been converted into a restaurant and solarium where guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinners ranging from braais and pub fare to very special African-Indian fusion and traditional Basotho meals.

Aloes Guest House overlooks the Drakensberg if you prefer epic mountains rising to over 2,850 metres. The gardens at Aloes are perfect for picnicking and swimming in the pool and the spacious and impeccably manicured grounds offer a wonderful setting for weddings, parties, barbecues, staff parties, family gatherings, and conferences.

We aim to offer a range of activities for visitors to Lesotho and the region is famous for its natural splendour. Hikers, mountain bikers, quad riders, and horseback riders will find many peaks and valleys to explore. There is also a rich cultural history in the region and activities include guided tours and treks to an ancient San cave decorated with rock art, village visits to traditional African rondavels, performances by local choirs, and dance troupes.

Very nice by

It is a beautiful place and the workers are so friendly. We experienced a power cut for many hours and I would want to propose that an automatic power engine be purchased to standby.

Enjoyable by

We have enjoyed our stay with you and the way you welcomed us. Keep it up and may God bless you abundantly.

Pitstop in Pitseng by

We overnighted in Pitseng on our way back to SA. There was confusion over our fully paid booking and Aloes sent us a 'fully booked' message the day before arrival. Self-catering unit was very clean but basic with no personality. If you stay during the weekend expect it to be very noisy!

Horror! by

I made a booking through Afrinow with Aloes Guest House and a quotation was provided which I confirmed and made down payment. On arrival at the establishment I was informed I was provided a wrong quote. I settled the original quotation and refused to pay any additional costs after being given given a R600 discounted which I thought was a ridiculous gesture. When my family and I (including 6 young children) tried leaving the establishment were refused exit, gates were closed on us and a police force was there at a blink of an eye. I made a decision based on my circumstances including not having a telephone to call Afrinow to pay R3000. The owner of the establishment was not contactable according to manager and did not try to resolve the situation. Much as our stay in Lesotho was memorable, this experience left a bitter lasting memory. My advise to anyone is to go by reviews about an establishment before making the final decision to make booking and this was a shortcoming from my part. L. Semoko

Establishments response:

Good afternoon

Yes we agree that we made a mistake of undercharging Mr Semoko, instead of charging him a two night stay, we charged him one night stay. The mistake was recovered upon arrival when he was to pay the balance. We communicated the mistake and made an offer of 600.00 discount on the second night that we did not charge which Mr Semoko denied.

Because we understood that we inconvenienced him, we had to take the blame and give them an allowance to propose the least amount that he can afford. After the discussion he said he will have 3,000.00 while he was to pay 5,610.00, this was really not fair to us but we had to compromise to that extend for their satisfaction.

Although we agreed of the payment of 3,000.00, he slept over for the second night without paying for it. We were astonished in the morning after breakfast when two ladies including Marriam coming in to the reception swearing and shouting that they will not pay 3,000.00 because it was not their fault that the quotation was undercharged. We tried to clarify it to them but they did not cooperate, what they wanted was to leave without paying the balance. We had no other option than locking the gates and calling the corps for help. Even on the arrival of the police, they never behaved accordingly, but at last Mr Semoko made the payment like we agreed.

We are still saying we are really sorry for the mistake and inconvenience we caused to them and we promise that the mistake will never and ever repeat itself, Because we have learned that there are greedy clients like Mr Semoko's group who usually takes advantage of people like he wanted to do to us.

Unwelcoming by

We arrived at the Aloes Guest House on Wednesday August 8 from 3pm to 4pm and the least we can say is that the welcome was not warm. The people at the front desk ate and we felt like bothering them. The receptionist greeted us coldly, at the limit of rudeness and showed us our accommodation without speaking to us practically. The accommodation itself was clean and it was probably its only asset as the castles are rudimentary, grim, poorly lit and in winter it is cold. We stayed two nights at this B & B, but preferred to shorten our stay without getting the money spent for the second night. To avoid!
