ASH COTTAGE REVIEWS (87 %) Lovely cottage, not quite ready for winter yet by Samantha Bailey, South Africa 07 August 2015 Cottage is well laid out and comfortably supplied. Susan from Walkerbouts gave warm welcome and introduction to cottage. In spring, summer or autumn, cottage is all set for great stay, but it's not quite ready yet to handle cold winter snaps (pipes freeze so no running water). This is something that's being sorted out, so may not be an issue soon. Re travelling there, if you don't have 4x4, the route via Barkly East involves the last 60 km on dirt road. It's a good condition road that can be handled at about 60km/hr, but that can be a tiring last hour if you've done a lot of driving already. The road does go through beautiful scenery though. Awesome by Darryn Mortimer, South Africa 25 November 2015 Most wonderful, cozy little cottage. Peaceful spirit in a picturesque town by Zana Ackermann 14 December 2017 The cottage itself was lovely, but we were caught completely off-guard by Rhodes itself. It is a sleepy little town nestled in the mountains, with NO shop and NO petrol station. No tar and no streetlights! If you are an avid star-gazer, mountaineer or amateur archaeologist - Look no further! However, as Ash cottage is a self catering unit, please ensure that you pack EVERYTHING you will need for your stay. The road to Rhodes is also a 60km dirt track (from Barkley East), which we weren't aware of either. If you are heading to Rhodes from the East Coast, be sure to stop at The Bean Tree in Elliot as your last coffee stop before going to Rhodes. It was such a splendid little find. It is on the main road in Elliot, in the entrance of the "Build it". Does not look like much from the outside, but wait until you're inside! Great coffee and lovely little menu. Warm people and an inviting atmosphere. Would recommend it to anyone. When in Rhodes pop into the information centre where you will find Margie - who is most friendly and helpful. Enjoy your own adventure. Coziness of the house by Shelley Edwards 26 January 2018 Accommodation felt like home and the amenities provided were definitely value for money. Beautiful scenery and lovely area. The ghost in the attic was considerate and well-mannered. :) Just passing through by Nigel & Barbara Hemming 28 April 2018 Cottage was perfect for our needs.
