Brandberg White Lady Lodge

Brandberg, , Namibia
Lodge, Bed and Breakfast from R 90 (family units from R 2,755)

The Brandberg White Lady Lodge, which opened in 2004, has become a choice destination for nature-orientated tourists from all parts of the globe. This is a place where you will feel at home and enjoy true warm-hearted hospitality and friendship.

Here, at the foot of Namibia's highest mountain, nothing has changed since the earth's early days. Clocks and watches are not part of this world. Here, time and tranquillity is the ?name of the game'.

At the Brandberg White Lady Lodge we offer accommodation in Chalets, Rooms and Luxury Tents, all with en-suite facilities. The stylish Chalets and Rooms are spread over an area in the river valley, among large shady trees, and feature a private veranda, electric lights and ceiling fans. The large Luxury Tents are fully furnished with double base beds, braai and en-suite facilities.

At the lodge you will find a fully licensed restaurant with classic Namibian food and a well-stocked bar. There is also a lounge and large pool area. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and lunch packs are available on request.

Our camping site has been awarded the ?most natural campsite' three years in a row. Every campsite has its own braai and water tap. Six ablution blocks with toilets and hot showers are spread over the site. A large and shady lapa, suitable for groups up to 40, complete this romantic spot in the river bed.

There is a lot to discover in the area around the lodge, including the Ugab River Valley, the Brandberg Mountain, the Damaraland with Doros and Messum Crater. The Ugab River Valley, with its old trees and green bushes, is homestead for a wide variety of game, birds, fascinating reptiles and insects.

The formation of the Brandberg massive unveils its treasures and secrets to the knowing eye of the geologist. Its sublime beauty nobody can evade. A visit to the "White Lady", perhaps the world's most famous rock painting, is a half-day excursion from our lodge. The footpath to the site offers spectacular views into the open plains of the Damaraland. The Stone Age rock paintings of the San bushmen give evidence of the presence of the famous desert elephants in the area many thousand years ago.

Especially during the drier periods of the year, groups of desert elephant rove in the valley of the Ugab River. Here, there is no worry for water and bush and trees to feed on in abundance. Experience these majestic giants on one of our guided elephant drives. A close encounter you will never forget.

Brandberg White Lady Lodge and Camping not recommended by

The camping was by far the worst on our whole trip in Namibia. No maintenance and lacking of any consideration for the camper to make one's stay more pleasant. No doors on the very basic showers or toilets and the braai pits useless and a dust bowl for a site, I know there is dust in Namibia but it is usually well maintained. We did have hot water from the 'donkey' though. The only two good things about the camping are the trees and the view of the mountain. We had a very nice Zebra steak at the Lodge but the rest of the food was average. The bar ran out of certain drinks. Not once did the Management of the establishment try to find out if the residents were enjoying the meal or their stay. I don't think they cared at all and with a little bit of effort Brandberg could be a nice place to stay. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and the Management could learn from them. We would far rather have stay at Uis which is about 25km away. I would not recommend anyone to camp at Brandberg White Lady.

Wonderfully rustic with stunning views and sightings of desert elephants by

We had a great time camping here with a morning spent with over 20 desert elephants coming through the camp, totally unforgettable.  It is a rustic campsite with no electricity and open air ablutions - just how I love it to be.  But even in the hard conditions the campsite and ablutions, as well as the lodge facilities were always clean and the staff friendly.  I would highly recommend camping here - for the views and the chance of sharing a moment in time with free roaming desert elephants!

Too short a stay by

Beautifully laid out desert garden with lots of birds. The chalets are comfortable and spread out so one can enjoy the quiet. Meals were good and local entertainment enjoyable. Unfortunately we were only there for one night and did not have the opportunity to explore or enjoy some of the other activities on offer.
