Cassin's Bush CampMwinilunga, North-Western Zambia, Zambia Self-catering from R 635 (family units from R 2,542) | R 635 |
Cassin's Bush Camp is a rustic self-catering camp situated on the banks of the West Lunga River, approximately 2 km upstream of the Luakera River confluence and 15 km south of the DRC border, on the 15,000-hectare Nkwaji Wildlife Game Ranch.
The bush camp derives its name from the normally elusive cassin's grey flycatcher, who has been a welcome resident and can be seen flying up and down the river daily. The pristine surrounds of the West Lunga River are fringed with Mushitu, palms, orchids and grassy dambo's, and the bird variety is reflected by this changing habitat.
The camp consists of four double classic safari tents and one family tent, with rustic en-suite bathrooms that each feature flushing toilets, showers and hand basins. The tented dining area, with fly-screen doors, includes a large dining area. Outside, next to the veranda, is an al fresco bar counter with a sink.
The camp and its surrounds are an absolute birder's paradise, and day trips can be enjoyed in the area. Here, in the most north-west corner of Zambia, Mwinilunga and its surrounds has some extensive Miombo areas, but some parts are heavily settled. The Nkwaji Forests in contrast are totally uncut and pristine. Between the two areas there is an exciting array of birds to be seen.
