Crown River Safari is ideally situated, just 17 km from Grahamstown and 120 km from Port Elizabeth. The landscape is rich in fauna and flora. This private and exclusive self-catering lodge can accommodate up to 8 - 9 guests.
This fully serviced Main lodge features 3 en-suite bedrooms, a loft room, a guest lounge and kitchen facilities. Each room is furnished with either a king-size bed or twin beds. Amenities available to guests include fans, heaters, hairdryers and tea- and coffee-making facilities. A radio and TV is available on request.The lodge has a spacious patio with braai (barbeque) area one overlooks the river where one can view zebra, buffalo and antelope, among many others animals and birdlife.
Two beautiful self-catering River Units overlooking the Kariega River has been added to the Private Game Reserve. Fully equipped Kitchen with en-suite bathroom, shower and bath, DSTV, private patio with braai facilities with stunning views over the river.
Crown River Safari boasts magnificent views of beautiful Yellow Wood Trees supporting large Crown Eagle and Hammerkop nests. During October, November and December the nest provides views of parent birds feeding 1 or 2, fluffy, white chicks. The nest has been occupied for 20 years. Guests have the possibility of seeing a Fish Eagle diving and lifting prey from the water, while they relax and enjoy refreshments from the porch.
Freshwater fishing is available on the 5 km riverfront around the lodge. The Bushman's and Kariega Rivers offer tidal river fishing. Rock- and surf fishing are available along the pristine beaches and deep sea fishing is also offered from Port Alfred, which is a 45-minute drive away. Other activities on the property include Game Drives, River Cruises, Kayaking/Canoeing, Guided Hiking Trails, Target Shooting and Clay Pigeon Shooting.
Perfectly balanced, Crown River Safari is a nature lover's paradise with dense ravine thickets, scattered thorn trees and open areas making this an idyllic outdoor experience.
There is a 4,5km gravel road leading to the lodge It could be a slight challenge for sports cars with low profile tyres. If guests cross the speedbumps at an angle and stick to the speedlimit it should alleviate most of the concerns. Road maintenance is done on a regular basis.
