The start of the Duzi Canoe Marathon is a short 5 minute drive away. Comrades and Umashova start is 1.5 km away. Two major dams, Midmar Dam and Albert Falls are both a short easy drives away approximately 25 minutes.
The world famous Midmar Mile, fantastic bass fishing and varied water sports are all popular at both dams. Durban's beautiful beaches and numerous tourist attractions are a quick 45 minutes' drive away. The Drakensberg Mountains southern and central Berg are a scenic drive away approximately 2 hours. The famous Midlands Meander arts and crafts route which includes numerous and varied country restaurants is easy to access in the vicinity of Midmar Dam and the nearby village of Howick. The spectacular Howick Falls and Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve are highly recommended in Howick.
A short drive from Howick is the birders paradise of Karkloof, which also features the acclaimed Karkloof Canopy Tour. The Karkloof classic is one of the country's largest mountain bike races, which attracts many of the top riders and thousands of participants. Art in the park & cars in the park are popular events in Pietermaritzburg, attracting collectors of art and vintage cars.
