There is nothing quite like escaping to the peace and splendour of the unspoilt countryside, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Here, a mere 45 km from Wakkerstroom, nestled between berg and vlei, lies this charming country cottage.

The cottage has two bedrooms downstairs, one with a queen-size bed and en-suite bathroom, and the other with twin single beds. Both these rooms have views of the dam and mountains. There is another bathroom and an open-plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with fireplace. Upstairs is an open loft area with three single beds on the one side, a small lounge area in the middle, and another three single beds on the other side.

The veranda offers magnificent views of the nearby dam, great for cooling off in the summer heat, while a quaint fireplace invites you to curl up and snuggle on the couches in winter. For the intrepid adventurer there are numerous hikes in the berg surrounding the cottage, while the vlei is alive with a variety of birds for those keen birders.

For the less adventurous, enjoy a sundowner or two on the edge of the berg overlooking the valleys below, lounge on the veranda with a good book, or set out for a leisurely paddle on the dam.The cottage has solar panels for lights and a gas stove and fridge. The water is heated by gas or fire. There is no cellphone reception so you can completely get away from it all. The road is not the greatest and a high clearance vehicle will be needed for the last stretch to the cottage.

We arrived late, but a fire was made in the fireplace and freshly baked bread and muffins awaited us. Crisp clean bedding helped with a good nights sleep. Beautiful view! The 18km badly tarred road to the farm was worth our while!

We loved the warm hospitality... it was a pity that the weather was so very misty and that the fields had recently been burnt but we need the rain. The owner was also very kind and obliging which we appreciated. Cozy cottage... great get away from it all weekend..

We had an incredible time at the Bergvlei Country Cottage. You can't imagine a more beautiful setting! The cottage itself is beautiful too; with everything, you will need for a comfortable stay. Ingrid was a gracious hostess who allowed us flexibility with our checkout. Her attention to detail was outstanding. We will certainly be back!
