Bubuhle offers comfortable self-catering accommodation on a 15-acre property in its own valley with a perennial tumbling stream and wetland. This quiet, romantic retreat is situated in Hogsback, high in the Amatola Mountains of the Eastern Cape.

Accommodation is offered in three thatched self-catering cottages, namely Hadeda, Loerie and Heron Cottages. Each cottage is equipped with a gas stove, microwave oven, fridge and cooking utensils. Bedding and towels are provided and each cottage has a fireplace and an outside braai area. Firewood is also supplied.

Hogsback is renowned for its scenic beauty during all seasons; the profusion of blossoms in spring, the cascading waterfalls and verdant green of the indigenous forests in summer, the splendour of the oaks, maples and many other deciduous trees in autumn, and the magic of light snowfalls in winter.

Beautiful setting, very nice accommodation, slightly rough road to get in and out, but that probably adds to the appeal

Not the place for a family long stay by

While set in a charming location with two local Knysna Loeries as frequent visitors, the Bubuhle Cottage is billed as a cottage for a family of four but doesn't quite live up to this - especially if you plan to stay longer than a night in winter when kids need to be indoors in the evening.

With young kids in tow, the cottage is simply too small to accommodate the lively antics of young'uns for longer than a night's stay.

The kitchen is also poorly stocked with self catering equipment. For instance, there are exactly four knifes, forks and spoons making breakfast and tea making (or any meal preparation) into a constant washing-up job.

Additionally, there is a general sense that the cottage could do with a good dose of TLC - the mattresses are very old, the sheets worn, the chimney doesn't draw as well as it should, the interior could do with a good spring clean with things like the bedside lights and bedside headboard needing a good dust and clean.

Bubuhle was the second stop on a road trip from Cape Town to the Transkei and back. It was the most expensive self-catering place we stayed and by far the least value for money. We left feeling that even the most simple things like the venue's cleanliness was in need of a good deal of attention.

The place was very nice and people friendly by

Only a place to hang your close (cubert)the rest was perfect.

Stil, rustige omgewing met baie voëlgeluide

Absolutely beautiful remote cottage by

Beautiful cottage. They catered for our 4 year old son which was wonderful. The road is pretty bad getting there so please go with a SUV or bakkie.
