Champagne Cottages is a small family-owned resort situated alongside the beautiful Bell Park Dam in the magnificent mountainous region of the Central Drakensberg. The Central Berg is part of the Okhahlamba region and is one of South Africa's World Heritage Sites. All the cottages are fully equipped for self-catering and linen is provided, although towels are not supplied. The units features fireplaces, TVs with DSTV, as well as covered verandahs with barbecue facilities. The cottages are also serviced daily, with the exception of public holidays. A tarred road extends to our front gate and provides easy access to the many amenities in the area which include hotels, restaurants, golf courses and a variety of outdoor activities, all within an eight to 15-minute drive. The resort, a two-hour drive from Durban and a four-hour drive from Johannesburg, is ideal for a weekend getaway. CHAMPAGNE COTTAGES BEWERTUNGEN (77 %) Lovely setting by Marinda Van Wyk, South Africa 06 April 2012 Value-for-money accommodation. Lovely setting and child friendly. Daily servicing of units is a big plus if you want to rest. There is a little bit of a problem with ants in the kitchen. Average by Paresh Paresh, South Africa 02 September 2012 Accomodation is okay but toilet in the dining area gets blocked and lots of mosquitos! January Stay by Janette Donald 08 January 2018 In was a fantastic stay. The accommodation was comfortable. The only thing that would make it more comfortable would be a fan in the room. It was very hot and there were a lot of mosquitos around. Perfect place for a relaxing getaway! by Tarryn Tippett 19 January 2018 Champagne Cottages is an awesome place to escape to if you need to just get away from the rat race and fully unwind.
Beautiful views, fresh air, lots to do on the property and in the surrounding areas!
The accommodation (especially Eagle cottage) is quaint yet very spacious, there is a bit of damp in the house but other than that we would definitely go back for a break away.
Nicky and her team were warm and helpful, always willing to assist. Country Life by Mandla Zondi 12 February 2018 Load shedding was a big problem over two days, we battled to cook or watch soccer on TV as there were no lights on Friday and Saturday evening Nice Place by Graham Demmer 05 April 2018 Very nice, lots to do and see around the area... The horse trails by Sheetal Jugnaik 12 June 2018 Lovely place - would definitely return. well located good value basic accomodation by Tandi Breetzke 16 July 2018 While the accommodation was a lot more basic than we expected it was still very comfortable and homey. The mattresses on the beds were pretty sad and after 10 days our backs were killing us. The photos on the website were also somewhat misleading and really need to include the view - which the eagle lodge was missing due to the thick - we assume - planted wind break. We fell in love with your delightful flat faced kitty who moved in with us for the period. Just wish we could have taken her home. Peaceful surroundings by Elize Nel 17 July 2018 I am giving Champagne Cottages two stars because of the beautiful and peaceful surroundings, for the nice fireplace in the cottage and for having hot water.
Otherwise the cottage we stayed in (Swallow) does not resemble anything as per the photos on their website. It is very small, very cramped, very dirty and very old. There were lots of spider webs and some of the dishes and cutlery were still dirty when we took them out of the cupboard and the couches and chairs were also dirty. The shower was mouldy with black mould clearly visible on the grout between the tiles and on the ceiling.
The fridge is small, there is a 2 plate stove, a small microwave without any microwave dishes and limited utensils.
We do not mind old, but dirty is not acceptable. We looked for alternative accommodation, but unfortunately everything was fully booked.
It is a self catering cottage and one would expect the stove to work and the braai to be usable, but only one of the two stove plates worked and the braai is so shallow that it is not practical to use at all. We used rocks from the garden to lift the very flimsy braai grid. The braai is on the stoep and with no chimney all the smoke was blown into the cottage leaving us teary eyed and everything smelling of smoke.
The spare linen provided for the sleeper couch was very old and we were sure that it would disintegrate if we used it.
Because the cottage is so small, we used the bed for our clothes and suitcases and my husband, I and our 6-year old all slept very uncomfortably on the sleeper couch.
This was the thirds place we stayed over on our vacation and by far the most expensive and by far the worst accommodation I have ever slept in. CHAMPAGNE COTTAGES LAGE
