We really enjoyed our stay at the farm, because we loved the animals, that we got to know with the staff. If you like it quiet and remote and don't need much comfort, that's the place to be!

FARM LIFE by

Cornellskop is a farm situated on the Van Der Stel Pass between Bot River and the Theewaterskloof Dam. It is the perfect place for a peaceful, quite and relaxed weekend getaway. There is no TV or cellular service at the cabins, which is a GREAT way to escape the hustle and bustle of life. Nestled between the hills you can sit on your balcony and watch the animals grazing in the meadows while enjoying the views and sounds and there are so many starts at night. The cabins are close to the river and you can go for walks to explore and enjoy the scenery, as well as see the various farm animals (cows, sheep, goats, geese, chickens and pigs) and ?wild' animals (baboons, ostrich, caracal, deer, zebra, cheetah, lion and hyena). To hear the lions roaring from their camp behind us, as well as the hyena's call was an amazing experience and we even managed to snap a selfie with Columbia the zebra :) Luke and his staff were very friendly en helpful. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely visit again!

I was not there because of a double booking and had to cancel.

OUR THIRD STAY AT CORNELL SKOP by

Swimming together as a family in the dam, being able to bring my doggy along, seeing sights never seen before like an albino porcupine scuttling along at night. Waking to the roar of lions early in the morning above our cabin. Being able to roam around freely on the farm and observing the animals receiving such good care and love IN HUGE, COMFORTABLE ENCLOSURES. The cottages are comfortable and fully equipped, you only need your food and toiletries. Braai facilities and equipment all included. The only recommendation I can make is maybe mesh enclosures for windows and doors for flies and mozzies; other than that its the greatest place for us and close enough to Cape Town to whip away for a weekend. i love the fact that I can go for long, uninterrupted walks and take in the beauty of the surroundings. Fresh air and peace. The last time we were there the Cheetahs were still kittens of 18 weeks old and Luke, the owner, invited us to come and see and touch them. They are now about 14 months old (I think) and a different kettle of fish, haha. No more touching. they are not pets but wild beasts brought up as close to nature as possible. We highly commend this. Thank you Luke for your hard work and dedication and attention to detail and your friendly wave and smile as you whizz past on your errands with your guests and animals. Dianne and Kevin Vos, Cape Town.

The zebra and watching the lions being fed by

Booked cottage 2, the four sleeper but on arrival were given cottage 1, the two sleeper. Luckily there was a single bed and a mattress so the kids had place to sleep

The tour of the farm with Amy who was very informative and friendly by

We loved the peace and tranquility and the location of the farm to outside areas. However, more care needs to be taken as to the monitoring of the arrival and departure times of guests. Arrival time is 1 pm onwards. We arrived at 3.15pm to Cottage no. 1 and tried to check in at the office. There was no-one there. As we parked our car next to the cottage two staff arrived and we were asked by them if the cottage had been cleaned! Problem no. 1! It had not been cleaned and the staff didn't even know what time the previous guests left! No-one checked up at any stage as to how we were doing. I met Luke while passing in the car on the farm. That was the only contact he had with us over our FIVE day stay. He clearly needs to train his staff. They removed bedlinen, bath towels and hand towel and brought fresh ones. They did not replace the dirty bathmat or bring us a clean hand towel. We requested a clean bathmat and it arrived the day before we left together with a toilet mat. There was no dish towel supplied in the kitchen to dry the crockery and cutlery. The braai area outside was never cleaned during our stay.

Peaceful setting by

We had a 2 night stay here in the single cottage, which was a lot larger than I expected, with a bedroom, living room, separate kitchen/dining room and a large bathroom. Both nights we had a wonderful sleep, punctuated by the two roaring lions, who are located on the ridge line above the units - what a noise to wake up to!! The kitchen was adequately supplied with pans/plates/utensils, however a microwave would have been a nice addition. Aside from this, the only other thing that would have made our stay a little bit more comfortable would have been a column heater (we lit the fire one night, however found it to be rather smokey). We loved the fact that the premises is dog-friendly, and would definitely recommend this spot to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle for a couple of nights!!!
