Die Stal is a small family house built with stone, situated in Sutherland. This self-catering house is fully equipped with everything that you would need on a weekend away. The house consists of two bedrooms, one bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen with open fire place for the winter months and a comfortable lounge area. Every room has blankets, spare blankets, towels and all bedding. This home is ideal for a family or a group of friends wanting to experience the tranquillity of Sutherland in a rustic, but comfortable accommodation.120 km North of Matjiesfontein in the Roggeveld of the Karoo, Sutherland is a space of clear, dark night skies. It's where one can marvel at the star scapes that sweep the outer limits, and where astronomers come to use the telescopes of the South African Astronomical Observatory.

A pity our stay was too short! Thanks Annelien Great stay by Ilse Van Wamelen, South Africa 11 October 2015 We stayed for one night at Die Stal. The cottage was clean and ready for us with fresh flowers on the table. The big fireplace is great when it gets cold outside and we had a lovely evening. The kids loved the space available to kick a ball and the sheep that stayed close by. Great stay by Rudi Delport 12 June 2017 Really enjoyed this place. Definitely worth a visit. It was nice and private yet close to town. The owner was welcoming and the attention to detail could be seen with fresh flowers and fire wood. Misleading by Natalie Young 24 July 2017 When deciding where to stay one of the first things in the advert to draw us to Die Stal was the Aga stove ... lo and behold there is no Aga stove or oil heaters in every room in fact no heater. There is a two plate mini stove with no knobs on the dials not on ... the house reeked of smoke from the previous guests braaing in the house.
When we arrived our host informed us that we best shower in the evening as the pipes tend to freeze through the night and that there was no shower door as the previous guests had broken the door (whether this was the guests that booked out on the day of our arrival or prior is not known). The shower was very brief as you freeze your butt off with no door. Further the previous guests half used soaps were still in the shower ... just gross.
We had to make a fire to attempt to heat up the place but this too was just bad ... wet wood and the flue didn't extract the smoke properly so we were filled with a house full of smoke.
Kitchen cupboard doesn't close properly and you have to tie it with a piece of string. Got so cold we upped and left at 8 in the morning we were jist so cold.
On the bright side the stars were amazing!
Overall misleading, disappointing and definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone in the middle of winter. Nice quiet farm set up by Elizabeth Adams 12 February 2018 Our visit was pleasant. The place was clean. We received a nice banana loaf from the host Anneline. Die stal is ñ pragtige plekke met alles wat mens nodig het asook ñ baie vriendelike gasvrou wat ñ baie lekker piesangbrood bak - dankie vir die vriendelikheid. Ons sal beslis Die Stal aanbeveel. Little Gem in the Karoo by Shaun Thomas 08 October 2018 Awesome little 2 bedroom cottage. Nice and quite and very friendly host. All you need for a nice stay for stargazing and explore the area etc. Will definitely be back ! DIE STAL LAGE
