Hakos Gästefarm

Hakos Guest Farm is only a two-hour drive from Windhoek and is situated on top of the Gamsberg Pass. Astronomers like the farm because of its high elevation at the edge of the desert; it provides the best opportunities for observation and photography. The farmhouse has a wonderful view of the Hakos Mountains and into the Namib Desert, where you will find peace and relaxation.

We offer 14 guest rooms and a small Campsite with clean ablution facilities. Enjoy a relaxed evening by the fire while taking in the unique setting of the steep folded mountains and the desert terrain, which offer unrivalled opportunities for exciting excursions.

There are two observatories on Hakos Guest Farm, with the International Amateur Observatory (IAS) as a resident on the farm itself. If you want to bring your own instrument along, there are several pillars to mount it on. We are glad to offer guided tours of the southern starry sky to the astronomical newcomers.

Explore the quiver tree forest with our special 4x4 excursions where guests will see many species of wildlife. Some rambling paths on the farm are ideal for long walks and hikes, where unique photo opportunities of the indigenous flora and fauna can be found. There is a refreshing indoor swimming pool and a small library.
