Kijani Hotel offers unique accommodation situated in the village of Shela, on the island of Lamu. The hotel is set in a tropical garden, located directly on the seafront with two fresh-water swimming pools.
We offer 10 rooms spread throughout the garden into three separate traditional Swahili buildings, which were formerly private homes. True to the atmosphere of a Swahili house, Kijani's rooms and central areas emphasize the aesthetics of privacy and space. Each room has a private veranda shaded from sight by archways and trees. A canopied Swahili bed stands beside antique cupboards and tables, coloured with hand-painted Indian tiles and painted glass. The bathrooms have intricately carved mirrors and lovely shutters with light filtering through.
Small tables and beach chairs lie in the shade of different species of palm trees, and the beautiful yellow Oleanders branch out over the large terraces that face the ocean. Our restaurant offer delicious breakfast. We bake our own bread and produce marmalade and yogurt every day. Our small farm on the island produces eggs and honey. Our guest can also order dinner from our daily a la carte menu. We can serve them delicious pasta and fresh grilled fish.
Life in Lamu has a distinctly Arab-oriental flavour and in the evenings the aroma of thick Turkishlike coffee permeates the atmosphere. Kijani Hotel revives the tradition of stone Swahili houses, creating an authentic retreat for visitors looking to experience Lamu's past.
