Marli Self-catering Guesthouse is situated along the main street of Welkom, a town that means welcome and proudly claims its youth status as South Africa's youngest town. Welkom emerged after the discovery of gold in the area, and like its metropolis sister of Johannesburg, it now plays a significant role in the mining development of South Africa.

Marli self catering guesthouse was not bad for a low cost accommodation venue. However, I was disappointed that the room we were booked in had a defective door which could not lock. We had to use the door from the opposite room to access our room and I have found this disturbing and unprofessional.

A very nice budget guesthouse within easy access to restaurants and shopping malls in Welkom. The host were very friendly and really gave me a nice welcome.

Dear Marli. thank you for the warm welcome and friendly reception. But the unfortunately the room we stayed in was really a disappointment. The door that cannot be opened that lead into your Tv-room area is very inconvenient because we felt there were no privacy. On the same side just above the toilet there is a window looking directly into the Tv-room, there is definitely no privacy. I had to use all the towels to cover up the openings. Futher more the basin and taps are so small i had ti fill up the kettle in the shower, a bar of soap cannot even fit there. There were cop webs in the corner of the rooms and shower and the one chair cushion if very dirty, the shower curtain look like it had blood stains on it.
