Ocean Reef Hotel is situated in Nkwazi and is directly linked to the beach via its own private boardwalk. It is located in an unspoilt natural habitat with a lagoon surrounded by indigenous coastal dunelands and forests. The beach is unmatched for water sports activities such as surfing and deep sea fishing.

A Mediterranean feel inspires the décor and menu of the restaurant. The menu offers great cuisine influenced by a diverse mix of cultures and cooking techniques. The Bamboo Lounge overlooks the ocean and seats guests inside and outside next to the infinity pool in an unsurpassed alfresco setting.

The architectural design and ethos is a fresh Afro-Indonesian palette, using neutral colours and rustic tones to blend with the natural environment of milkwood trees, beach and bush. The complex is completely secure with automated gate-control access, a 24-hour guard, an electric fence around the perimeter and a guard house at the entrance to the complex.

This hotel can best be described as a good 2-star, average 3-star but poor 4-star hotel. It definitely does not deserve to charge at 4-star rated. problems experienced during stay: Interrupted water supply, electricity failure, DSTV problems, disabled oven, poor breakfast, poor service from restaurant waiters. Poor quality of food at dinner. Slack service in general.

Disappointing: 17-30 December 2016 by

Our geyser didn't work for the first 48 hours, we were given the key to the unit next door to shower and then weren't advised when that unit was no longer available. Crockery was mismatched, braai wasn't cleaned on the first day until we requested it. The bathrooms were not well cleaned. One day, in the twin room, 1 bed didn't have a fitted sheet whilst the other bed didn't have a flat sheet. Hairdryer is attached through a drawer so I had to take my head to the dryer to dry my hair. Awful garbage smell in the basement where we parked. Service in the hotel restaurant was appalling. Paid R470 per person for Christmas lunch which was possibly worth R150 - substandard.
This is NOT a 4 star establishment!
I would recommend that people steer clear of this hotel!
