seeing the wonder in my child eyes while she looks on at a mother whale and her calf by

From start to finish this was an amazing experience for myself, 7 year old daughter and husband. We were collected from the airport and taken to the lodge via boat by co-owner Riaan. Every effort was made for the safety of my child and we were completely at ease being on the water with her. From the moment we stepped on the boat we felt the adventure had begun. Arriving at the lodge was magical, the tide was in which allowed for us to get very close to the steps leading from the ocean up to the entrance of the lodge. We were greeted with welcoming drinks by Letitia, Riaan's wife and co-owner. The décor of the lodge has an authentic artsy feel about it. Letitia herself decorated it using all natural items, this gives the lodge a natural coastal chic feeling to it. Entering the accommodation we were pleasantly surprised at the facilities. A large ocean facing room with an attached bathroom and shower, with all the needed consumables. As this is an eco-lodge, they are completely self-sufficient, solar panels generate and store electricity, which is available during the times that you are unlikely to be partaking in any activities. Water is either collected from rain or is desalinated. The meals are sublime. Again, we were completely thrown off axis with the absolutely delicious meals we were served. Although the meals are served at set times with a set menu we did not want for anything. My daughter was catered for with a special breakfast in case the breakfast of that day did not appeal to her. Although Letitia had said that lunches were a simple one course meal, there was nothing simple about the food that we had. Suppers were three courses and were prepared better than some restaurants at home. The staff were some of the friendliest people I have come across and not even the language barrier stopped us from having a giggle, having said that the staff were more than proficient in English and very understanding as we butchered the Portuguese language with our mispronunciations and incorrect use of the words. All activities were well planned and not once were we left disappointed. We participated in snorkelling where my daughter was specifically catered for and a life vest was secured her. Riaan was on board the boat keeping an eagle's eye on her. When she tired and raised her hand he and the crew were quick to respond and get her on board. She got to experience the vibrant coral and inquisitive fish, while I was completely at ease with her being in the water, assured that we were safe. Upon return we decided to kayak around the peninsula, where we experienced the friendly greetings of the local fishermen. We also experienced the once in the life time opportunity to view a humpback whale mother and calf in the bay, at a relatively close range. Riaan was very proficient in locating the whales for our viewing pleasure. The walk through the baobab forest to turtle beach was a pleasant experience, even spotting a monkey on the way in. We were a bit disappointed at the beach itself, owing to the few jellyfish that we saw. Although we believe that it was the time of day that the tide brought them in. we did have the most wonderful picnic basket packed for us, with delicious goodies prepared by Letitia herself. All in all our biggest gripe is that we did not make provisions for a longer stay. There was an abundance of activities that we would have like to participate in, at reasonable prices, but did not have the time to do so. Letitia, Riaan and staff, you made our stay unforgettable. We plan on meeting you again in future.

Rest and comfort in very beautiful surroundings by

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the lodge - it was a wonderful, relaxing holiday! The accommodation is simple but very comfortable - thank you for the fans at night as it was very hot. The remote lodge is perched above the sea and we had wonderful views from our room and the adjoining gazebo where we spent a lot of time reading and dozing. We walked through the heat to the beach on the other side of the peninsula where we swam and sat in a cooling breeze. We loved the remote feeling of the lodge and the surrounding bush veld and birds. We are both scuba divers and we did a number of shallow dives in the beautiful nearby reefs - lots of healthy coral and many little fish! The food was amazing - carefully prepared and presented and we felt very cared for by all the staff - both house staff and dive staff. Letitia and Riaan take great care of their guests and we hope we will be back.
