Only 20 minutes south of Durban, this modern and luxurious South Coast hotel resort is well-known for its excellent accommodation, wonderful food, friendly hospitality and first-class service. Situated between the lagoon and the beach at Illovo, it also boasts an award-winning caravan park. There are various sporting and recreational activities, including golf, squash and swimming.

The surrounding areas have an abundance of natural attractions that range from Crocodile farms to game viewing. Well situated in the centre of eight of the regions best golf courses, a variety of golfing needs are accommodated, from hiring of clubs to golfing lessons.

The famous Aliwal shoal offers some of the worlds' best shark diving and also boasts some of the best game fish species in the Indian Ocean. Even if you are not into diving, the facility does offer non-diving trips, including deep sea fishing and surf fishing.

The Pavillion shopping centre is also situated within half an hours' drive from the hotel and, being the biggest shopping centre in KwaZulu Natal, offers some of the best shopping available. After a hectic day of shopping here, stop in at The Firkin Pub for a delicious and refreshing drink or bite to eat before making your way back.

This was my second stay with Protea Karridene. Our stay was very nice and they accommodated our needs and were very flexible! Thank you very much.

Review by

The room was very comfortable and the rest of the hotel is well kept, but the food needs attention. I ordered the basket and could not eat the spring rolls or the samosa. Every thing was over cooked and hard. There was no bacon at breakfast.
