Rufiji River Camp enjoys the most fabulous position overlooking this wide waterway. The camp offers 14 individual en-suite tents alongside the river bank. Three of the tents are perfect for families or a group of friends as they are situated on a single platform. Each tent has an extended shaded verandah and is fully furnished, including mosquito nets. Mosquito repellent and swimming towels are also provided. The tents are equipped with electricity, perfect for lighting or charging batteries, but not for hairdryers.
Guests can cool down in the pool or have a drink at the bar or restaurant. All meals are provided, as well as tea and coffee with every meal, while soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are available at the bar throughout the day.
While staying at Rufiji River Camp, guests can go on boating and walking safaris or game drives in open, adapted 4WD vehicles with tiered seating and roof shading. All game activities are led by the camp's guides, and guests can expect to see a wide range wildlife. Selous is also home to large numbers of buffalo and lion, as well as a healthy population of wild dogs, where they are found in the highest density of anywhere in Africa. The population peaks in September and October.
In addition, various antelope species such as impala, waterbuck, reedbuck, eland, Lichenstein's hartebeest and the yellowy grey Nyassal and wildebeest are also found here. The sandbanks, oxbow lakes, islands and channels are home to over 440 species of birds which include including two rare species; the Pel's fishing owl and the White-backed heron - perfect for bird-watchers.
