Springfield Estate rests on the Springfield Farm that has been declared a Provincial Heritage Site, deep within the Agulhas National Park. It is one the southernmost pieces of land on the tip of South Africa.
The surrounding area, Cape Agulhas, known as the strandveld or literally ?sandy land' in Afrikaans due to its sandy soils, is rich with never-ending coast lines, mountains covered with Fynbos and Southern African wildlife.
The original farm house pre-dates 1889 when the farm was formerly registered. It was the home of Lord de Saumarez, the English lord memorialized in Dalene Matthee's novel ?Driftwood'. A collection of three quaint old renovated thatch cottages, which can be rented individually, circle the English baronial hall.
