After viewing the photos of Stucky's guesthouse and comparing the prices with previous establishments we stayed at in Volksrust before, we decided to stay at Stucky's for the weekend, as we were attending a wedding nearby. Initial communication was very friendly and enquiring for an extra nights accommodation was met with a friendly reply, stating they would keep the room and we could pay for the room when we arrived.
On arrival we received a warm greeting and was promptly shown to our room. The room was part of a building that was completely separate from the rest, which seemed a bit odd, as it was next to the outbuildings. We thought this was due to the venue potentially being fully booked, with the wedding guests. Our room (17A) was clean and tidy.
Apart from the bed being very comfy, the first nights sleep left a lot to be desired. A large eucalyptus tree stands right next to the building, which has a corrugated iron roof, resulting in constant noise when the seeds fall on the roof. Paired with the noises at 06:30, I guess of employees getting ready for work, it resulted in a bad nights sleep.
Our shower was not a lot better, as every minute, you were surprised by 15 seconds of ice cold water, before the warm water would return. My wife also had difficulties blow-drying her hair, as there was no mirror at the dresser table and also no wall socket to plug in the hair-dryer. The only socket (multi-plug) available was next to the bed.
The breakfast was excellent, well prepared by the friendly staff, with ample cereals, bread, fruit, yoghurt etc.
After returning from the wedding, we noticed that there were no other guests and that we were the only ones staying at Stucky's. This left us puzzled as to the choice of room that was provided, as there are rooms available right next to the pool, which does not feel so separate.
Stucky's was an unimpressive stay and at it's price point, there are guesthouses which provide far superior accommodation in the Volksrust area.
