Come and enjoy a relaxed stay at Sundown Lodge, situated on a small holding only 2.4 km from Aliwal North on the R58/Lady Grey road en-route to East London. We are not far from town, but far enough to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil stay.

We offer 19 comfortable rooms with a relaxed atmosphere, each with an en-suite bathroom. The rooms overlook either the swimming pool or the beautiful fields surrounding the lodge. Facilities include a swimming pool, braai facilities, beautiful gardens, a restaurant and bar, a large parking area and a shuttle service to and from town is available on request.

The principal assets of Aliwal North are two hot mineral springs, both of which have extremely high concentrations of minerals and gases. These springs are thought to be very therapeutic for the sufferers of arthritis and rheumatism. The many surrounding caves and rock shelters on farms in and around Aliwal North are treasure troves of San rock artwork and cave paintings.

Overpriced derelict disaster by

Booking process via Safari was perfect. But oh dear, the Saddle Down is at best a one or two star, Even at half the R750 per night rip off, the green pool, weeds, derelict "gardens", no liquor license or operational credit card was outrageous. Safari is harming their reputation to represent this dive.
