Immersed in nature, Tegwaan is a little ecosystem of its own: with fresh water springs, several fish ponds and a creek, the grass is always green, the trees are tall and the birds are happy! :-)

We are a family run business and are passionate about creating a space where our guests get to reconnect with nature, have fun with their friends and spend quality time with their family. We are a kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and eco-friendly micro-farm where we try to tread lightly on the earth and work with nature nature to care for ourselves and our animals, and grow our own food. We create uniquely designed and built cottages, tiny houses and more - each one has their own feel and experience so come check out which one is your perfect getaway in nature.

Set just outside of the country town of Emgwenya (formerly Waterval Boven) it is one of the most popular weekend destinations among climbers and mountain bikers from Joburg and Pretoria. Tegwaan is a destination in itself: it is the closest place to the Restaurant(-At-The-End-Of-The-Universe) and Triple Tier crags, and closely connected to some of the hiking and biking trails. We also have our own ponds and fish, so bring your rope, your hiking shoes, your bike, your fishing rod or your hammock! Your dogs will also love it ? with so much space to run around and water to splash in, they will be happy and exhausted by the end of the weekend!

Tegwaan is also an ideal stopover for travellers: being just a few kms off the N4 on a good road, just halfway between Jo'burg and Kruger National Park, it's an easily accessible place to break up the drive and enjoy a properly relaxing day by the pool, followed by a braai under the stars and an evening by the fire.

The property has 3 cottages with full self-catering facilities. There are also luxury glamping tents for the love of the outdoors. The 4 campsites on the property are also ideal for those looking to spend more time with nature. Situated in the beautiful Waterval Boven, nature is what you can expect from your stay at the property.

The village of Waterval Boven is nestled in the Drakensberg Mountains on the fringe of the escarpment, at the foot of the South Hills. It is rich with historical sites and buildings which are now proclaimed national monuments.

There are many things to do in the area including:
- Hiking - We have hikes that leave from Tegwaan that range from a 3.5km loop that takes you to a small waterfall / swimming hole, to a 10 km hike (there and back) to a big waterfall / swimming hole. You can also hike over to the Nature Reserve in the next valley and have lunch at their delicious restaurant (also 10 km there and back).
- Mountain Biking - Mountain biking is up the road at Tranquilitas Adventure Farm. They have amazing routes and you can buy a weekend or day pass to access them.
- Rock Climbing - All around us! If you're new to climbing, check out Rock n Rope Adventures who can take you on a guided lesson for climbing or abseiling.
- Ziplining - Some amazing folks down in the Elands Valley run the longest zipline in Mpumalanga at Mountain Strings Zipline. We promise it is not that scary but sooo fun!
- Horse Back Riding - The wonderful ladies at BBK Trails can take you out on some amazing horse back rides. There is even an option for champagne sundowners which we recommend :)
- Fishing - We have catch and release bass fishing at our place and our neighbor has catch and release trout fishing (our guests are welcome to fish trout as well). Please bring your own fishing gear.
Birding - Soooo many birds! Just bring your binoculars!
- Massages and Spa - We have several different mobile spa options in town. If you let us know what you are interested in (manicure, pedicure, facial, massage etc) then we can share the right contact with you.
