Thatchings is a four star, country-style guest house that is situated in Nottingham Road in the glorious KwaZulu Natal Midlands. We are a part of a trout and game estate where one can see many species of game such as zebra, black wildebeest, eland, red hartebeest, blesbuck and impalas to name a few. Relax in one of the guest lounges or curl up with a book in front of a log fire on those cold and misty days while sipping gluhwein or sherry. On those hot days have cocktails on the patio overlookig the picturesque lakes. We offer a true home away from home experience with personal service.We offer luxury en suite accommodation, all under traditional African thatch. We have large family rooms, twin rooms, a junior suite and a luxury honeymoon and executive suite. Rooms are heated and there are electric blankets and down duvets to ward off the winter chill. Magazines, TV and tea or coffee making facilities are provided to make our guest's stay more comfortable. Visit the Midlands Meander which is South Africa's premier arts and crafts route. In close proximity you can play a round of golf from a selection of golf courses, go horse riding, abseiling, quad biking, hot air ballooning, clay pigeon shooting or try the Karkloof Canopy Tour that gives you a birds eye view of the forests below. Visit a cheese farm, wine estate, a health spar, a wellness centre or go picnicking. You could also visit the San Rock Art Centre and see original San drawings or go up the Sani Pass to the highest pub in Africa. The Zulu and Anglo Boer War Battlefields are an approximate 60 minute drive away.Our rates include a full English breakfast. Dinner is available by prior arrangement.
