Thula Guest Farm is situated just outside of the charming town of Clarens. It offers an idyllic and tranquil stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Being a working farm, it is a great choice for nature-loving groups and families. The farm has four comfortably furnished chalets, of which all have a variety of bed configurations and layouts. Each chalet has a well-equipped kitchen for all of your self-catering needs. There is also an outside braai area where guests can enjoy good food and stunning views of the grass plains. The property also has a beautifully renovated farm house offering six well-appointed bedrooms and five bathrooms. The open-plan living area consists of a comfortable lounge and a lovely farm-style kitchen, ideal for enjoying freshly baked scones and tea. Guests can spend their days getting to know the resident farm animals, or discovering the surrounding property. Follow one of the walking trails to the nearby Ash River where river rafting can be enjoyed. Guests can explore the many caves in the area before returning to the house or chalet to enjoy an evening meal underneath the stars.

THULA GäSTEFARM BEWERTUNGEN (61 %) Perfect Getaway! by Simone Neethling, South Africa 10 March 2015 What a beautiful farmhouse, surrounded by stunning scenery. The perfect getaway accommodation for big groups. Hoping to come back and visit soon. Easter weekend 2015 by Debbi Demetriou, South Africa 07 April 2015 Due to Clarens being fully booked out, we found this option available. Both economical and fairly close to town. The website states 13.9 km, to be exact, from the centre of Clarens. Mr Garmin and his friends puts the distance just about 20 km on the button. Let's not split hairs tho...There is no "Reception" to greet you. A sole local chap with limited English vocabulary will point you in the general direction of the wrong chalet with the right keys. Finding the right chalet was easy enough after that.
The setting is idyllic and tranquil. The chalets are rustic and "comfortable" will be a fair description. They were also clean. The economical rate is becoming more evident as we go along. Expect no luxuries and thou shalt not be disappointed.
First major hiccup. The shower is blocked and the bath is the only option. No bath mat. The bath is an awkward unit that hugs your average hips (read size 36" waist) and thus dumps the water over the back when you move backwards to sit up.
The owners don't respond to the "shower blocked and please provide a bath mat" text, but upon our return the next evening, there is a bath mat by the front door. Shower still blocked.
Apparently, the "reception/ security" fellow runs the place and he was the one that needed to be told about the shower, not the owners... Good to know!
Next, the bed is fitted with a heated blanket. Yay! Its a euro plug and there is no adapter. Awww! We brought an adapter with. Yay! The plug is slap in the middle of where the bed goes against the wall and therefore the bed wont go back. Awww!
The stove doesn't work. Luckily, we tested the plug next to it that the fridge was using and that worked.
Enough nit-picking. The setting is breathtaking beneath the mountains and the tranquillity was profound.
With some due care and attention, this place could be the gem it deserves to be!!
Well priced overnight stay by Cari Bredell 10 January 2018 The chalets have a beautiful view and is clean and neat inside. The directions to the Guest Farm need to be improved, but once we called we were given clear directions. The Chalets are not shown on the pictures and are thatched buildings. The chalet was clean, but the building, access road and yard can do with some maintenance. The road between the main house and the Chalets needs work, we had an SUV and were worried about the rocks and ditches (not recommended for a car without a good height clearance). It's about a 30min drive between Clarens and the guest farm. Beautiful home in the country by Anastasia Mallabone 21 January 2018 Loved everything about this home Clean, Large room and beautiful view Chalet by Nardus Van Der Watt 27 February 2018 As an ex-hotelier whom has been in the hotel Industry and more specifically the 5 star industry I will provide honest and factual detail. It might upset the Management and Owners of the Guest Farm but it will help future guest to decide carefully.
The booking went smooth and Jeje, the Manager is really friendly and helpful.
The 5.8km gravel road to the farm on Friday 23 February is average with a large puddle of deep water in the road.
The road from the Main house on the farm to the Chalet is not smooth and quite rocky with sharp bends and uneven spots. Fortunately I had a 4x4 which made it a bit easier for me to access.
Went out on Saturday morning to Clarens and arriving back at the Lodge on Saturday at around 13:00 there were no water on the Farm. Jeje were contacted and I were promised they will make work of it. By 18:00 there were still no water after I were told at 16:00 water will be ready in 45min.
I insisted on a refund and Jeje agreed all is well and I will be refunded straight away. I only received payment by 12:20 on Monday 26 February after endless calls and follow ups with empty promises and a huge fight with Jeje and the excuses for not being able to refund me as there is 2 parties that need to pay and release payment. I asked for the Owners telephone number and I were told she is not prepared to provide me with the contact details of Mr. Moloi, the Owner.
The Chalet is beautiful spacious and with a beautiful view down the valley. Just a pity the road to the Chalet is not so smooth.
It will be difficult for me to recommend Thula Guest Farm to future patrons based on the fact that the Owner do not want to get involved if there is problems but is hold his hands out to receive payment. With such bad road conditions indirectly it does damage to your vehicle. Lovely old house with a lovely view by Jansie Bosman 04 April 2018 An old style house with lots of character....love the surroundings. Need a little bit of kitchen utensils such as bottle opener, dish cloths, casserole. Leaving by Sharon Hood 04 April 2018 As stated in reviews before, it appears that the owner (whom i believe to be a new owner) has no interest in the cottages and has decided to just let them carry on with no maintenance until they fall down. The was no cutlery, the fridge did not work, no water or electricity most of the time. The bulbs were blown and the couch stained. Light fittings were hanging by the electric cables from the walls. Directions to the place could be better, however i think if you are trying to get there you would be better suited to give up and to go elsewhere. The view i guess by Karen Rossouw 30 April 2018 I was very disappointed with Thula Guest Farm - after arranging that I will be arriving late, No one answered the phone to assist us with directions. There was also no one available to give us any keys when we finally found the farm. The directions that was sent to us was also incorrect. Beautiful Area by Maritte Jordaan 01 May 2018 Comfortable stay ,value for money inside accommodation, but unfortunately we couldn't use the braai-area since the Cowdung,Cows and flies are everywhere especially on your veranda (dung even smeared against walls) .Seriously a bother and nuisance since the Cows even rubbed their bums against our cars -seriously I would have laughed if it wasn't so disgusting.
Staff were very friendly and everything else was great -except the Cow issue cosy rooms ample space fresh air well designed and thoughtout layout of the room by Teboho Mahase 02 July 2018 boards from the R712 and mile markers to property are a problem and there should be a intercom at the gate, we struggled to reach them on the listed number, please rectify this immediately FARM ATMOSPHERE by Paula Nel 16 July 2018 VERY CLEAN OUR FAMILY ENJOY THE PLACE
WIIL GO BACK AGAIN Leaving the establishment was great! by Johan Van Den Berg 23 July 2018 To start with, the location provided on the website is not accurate. We called the phone number and we had to wait for almost an hour before the lady picked up. She couldn't direct us so someone was sent to the main road to escort us. When we arrived there was no firewood or matches, although we were assured that it is in the unit. The unit we got was not one of those on the pictures provided. The mattresses for the third and fourth beds, bunk beds, are old and torn. We booked for 2 nights, after the first night we left! THULA GäSTEFARM LAGE
